I had a terrible running accident on a cross-country trail in September 2010 which ended up with me having a dislocated knee, torn meniscus and torn Achilles tendon. It has been a long and frustrating road to recovery, resulting in a 20 pound weight gain and a significant blow to my self-esteem. I lost 75 pounds 8 years ago due in large part to running and had no intention of gaining any of those pounds back. It has been a bitter pill to swallow. However, the physiotherapy team I’ve been working with over the last year has been nothing short of stellar and assured me that they would get me back to running IF I followed their instructions to the letter and didn’t rush things. Well today at the gym at work I ran for the first time in over a year. Sure it was only for 5 minutes but it felt GREAT and did more for me emotionally than I can put into words.
