OT- How NOT to spend Memorial Day!

With a busted out front tooth! Ive needed to wear a upper denture for 30 years (since a massive infection whipped thru my mouth) and last night I was breaking apart Whoppers round candy pieces for Biscuit with my teeth (only having a few myself, honestly) and BAM! Tooth broke right off, leaving a sharp, gaping hole! OY....Need to call at 6:30 am to see what day I can get in for a appt to get it fixed - for which I have no dental insurance
No barbeque for me....

Oh no! On the plus side - a dental emergency means you won't have to go see your aunt.

Thanks, all! I know it could be worse- at least the whole thing didnt break, but its driving me nuts- feels like a sharp fork in my mouth and I *needed* to whine! lol....hope everyone has a good Holiday!

Thanks for writing, everyone! The next regular appt I can get is almost 2 weeks away, but I can call every morning at 6:30 am to see if I can get one of the very few 'emergency' openings for the day...its a lower cost clinic (cant call it a 'low cost' place at those prices!) so it is hard to get in quick....meanwhile I look 'so purty' with a gaping hole! eek! lol

Ask the clinic if there is something you can do to lessen any sharp edges you might have---if it would be a problem to use an emery board to file a tooth edge. If you or they think a replaced tooth is in order then it should be ok to file a piece yourself or even glue the old piece back on temporarily until your appt. (I've go a plate and have had to deal with broken teeth in the past also). Hopefully you can get a little more comfort even tho it ain't so purty.

I wish I could find the damn thing! Looked and looked for it...I did ask them and they said it was ok to do that, thanks! It helped...I ended up talking to a different lady and she was able to get me an appt for an exam *tomorrow* YAY! They probably wont do the work then, but at least I can find out the cost, etc....told me how to get a coupon for a free exam too! I think they will want to replace it, cuz its like 30+ years old, but we just cant afford that right now....nothing else, maybe they have a old Chiclet lying around I can use!

You might be surprised that it may not be as expensive as you think. My Mom got a new plate after something like 40 years--it made her look so much younger-- a modern/sharper smile.

LOL....Just might be true! aagghh....good to hear that about your mom! I really like(d) mine, but its needed re-lining for yrs, but Ive just put it off. I's gettin' AWFUL tired of soft food already!

Just a quick update- I was able to get it replaced yesterday at The Smile Center (dont know if that is a national chain or not.) They did a great job at matching the color and size, plus had a no expiration coupon on their website for a free exam (and x-rays, which I didnt need) for new patients so it cost only $130, which isnt bad....got the job done in about 2.5 hours, Im so glad I went there

Forgot to say they also are one of the few places that accepts Medical Assistance from the State program....*very* hard for people in Mn Assistance to get dental work done, so please pass along if you know someone who needs dental care....they take Visa also!
