I've been watching a ton of home decoration TV shows lately (laid up with my back), and I had a big revelation about dressing a bedside table or nightstand. Mine used to have new lamps and nothing else. They looked bare, but I just figured that less would be more for that area. Then I heard one of the TV designers talking about dressing a bedside table for a guest room- it was either Emily Henderson (who I am *obsessed* with) or Genevieve Gorder. She was suggesting you have five things on the bedside table- a light source, water vessel for middle of the night thirstiness, a box or bowl to put jewelry in, a candle or flowers to smell nice, and a clock. I started playing around with my own bedside tables, and adding objects made it feel so homey and lived in- I was shocked! I added a bowl of flowers and a small mirrored box to my lamp and clock. I actually just ordered a vintage travel clock that will look better. My husband's side has a vintage frosted glass Tumble Up painted with a feather design, a metal ashtray that he made in school (which was never used as an ashtray, but will make a great base for a candle that we still have to find), and a quirky eyeglass holder that looks like an oversized Picasso nose with small moustache/lips (which I am thinking about spraying white) in addition to his alarm clock and lamp. The placement isn't perfect, but it still looks so much better. At some point, I am going to try and talk him into a better looking alarm clock, but I don't hold much hope. At least this way, the things help hide the ugly alarm clock. The vintage alarm clock that I bought it pictured in the last photo.
Anyone else want to share photos of how you've dressed your bedside tables?
