OT--High Maintenance white handbag

My adorable white handbag went on it's maiden voyage yesterday--shopping for Father's Day. I figured the mall was a safe place to take it and I was careful not to wear any dark wash denim so it wouldn't get stained. Can you believe that the red star on the Macy's bag rubbed against the bag and turned it pink? Yes, I kid you not. I was able to save it using one of those white erasers but sheesh, I think white is too much maintenance for me : )

Argh! I've had this happen to me too and it's sooooo annoying! I'm glad you were able to get it out though. My lighter bags haven't faired so well.

Thanks goodness for white erasers! I use them on my son's white marching band shoes. They are a lifesaver.

I'm glad that I started with a very modest priced white bag. I'm not sure I'm white handbag material unless I start living inside a bubble : ) Love the white erasers too--I don't know how they work but they sure are amazing.

They are amazing! I'm uniform mom for 80 plus band kids and I always carry a few with me...those and shout wipes!

I have a couple of white handbags and haven't experienced this,...I must be lucky because I think this is a common problem with white!
I can't believe the Macy's bag rubbed off...I shall be extra careful!

Sympathy! I haven't even DARED a white handbag for that reason!

I already ruined a really nice straw bag by carrying it when I was wearing my dark wash jeans. I thought they were fine...colour hadn't come off on anything else!

I don't think I'd risk a white leather bag oooops scrub that I do have a white leather crossbody bag! My white pleather one gets way more use though, I use it regularly but make sure not to wear jeans and as soon as I notice any marks I get them cleaned off asap usually just with a baby wipe. My white leather bag gets regular doses of leather protector and again I get marks off straight away x

I recently bought a bright yellow bag and the clerk recommended Doc Martens leather cleaner for it. I haven't tried to hunt this down yet, so I can't vouch for it.

Interesting, I take my white bag almost every day and I haven't had a bit of trouble. I do notice dirt of course, but no color rubbing at all.

I wonder if it depends on the finish. Mine has a soft, kid leather feel although it is pleather. I think it might be exceptionally susceptible to marks. I should probably just keep one of those white erasers inside one of the pockets ; )

That's odd. I am also on Team I Use My White Bag a Lot Without Incident. Mine is pebbled leather -- I'll bet Kelly is on to something with her theory that the soft, smooth surfaces are most at risk for scuffage and stainage.

Have any of you tried treating your white bags with a protectant spray before using them? I had an unfortunate experience with a soft, light gray leather bag and some dark wash jeans (fortunately, my dry cleaners were able to get the worst of it off). So when I bought a very light tan bag recently, I sprayed it with leather and suede protector. So far, so good! A little bit of red from a new tee shirt showed up on the bag one day, but it cleaned off quite easily.
