So, I wasn't going to post about this but Jenava enccouraged me when we were at brunch on Sunday. Maybe some of you have some insite.
Last Wednesday I was taking the bus to work and doing my usual bus breakfast of eating a Clif bar and drinking coffee. I felt like I was having trouble with my tongue. I also called a friend and it seemed difficult to talk as well. My speech was slower and I felt like I had difficulties finding words.
When I got to work, I talked to one of nurses adjacent to my area. They rushed to the ER and initiated the stroke protocol. I got a CT, CTA (which is a CT with contrast to look for bleeds). Both came back negative. I did fail a swallow evaluation, so they would not let me eat or drink. They admitted me to the hospital. By this time most of my symptoms have resolved. That evening I got an MRI. The next morning when the doctors were rounding I was told the MRI was negative. If I passed the swallow evaluation with the speech therapist I would be discharged. A few hours later I passed the swallow evaluation. I was discharged in the afternoon and was told to follow up with my primary care doctor.
My only residual symptom is a bit of a dead area in the center of my tongue. Similar to the after effect when you burn it on something too hot.
I emailed my primary care physician who I'm seeing on Thursday. She said it might be a type of migraine. Have any of you have had, or heard of anything similar? I try not to burden the forum with this kind of stuff, but I'm mystified.
