OT: Have you mailed a package to yourself at a hotel?

I'm going to a conference in a few weeks and I have a slight dilemma. I'm presenting a poster, but I can't carry it with me unless a check a bag (which I'm doing my best not to do). I've heard of people mailing things like posters and whatnot to hotels, but I've never tried it. Have any of y'all done it? Was it a huge headache or was it worth it?

Because it's Friday, I think we need a happy pic. I give you a koala.

I mailed a box of food to myself when we went to Disney World. I would call the hotel you're staying at and ask how to address it. For example, at Disney, I had to send it to a special address at the convention center in the hotel with my reservation number, etc. Just explain you'll be there for a convention and need to mail some of your presentation materlals ahead of time. You won't be the first person to do so, i'm sure!

Also, if you have to mail it to a section of the hotel that's NOT the front desk, get the hours for that particular spot. We were unable to pick up our package until the next morning.

Ugh, I hate the poster schlepping dilemma. Honestly most of the time I just brazenly take it on the plane as a third carry-on, and I have never been stopped. =P

But, to answer your original question, I have had a poster fed exed directly from the printer to the hotel, which worked fine. I think I was able to pick it up from the front desk if I remember correctly, but I'd check w/ the hotel to be sure.

I have done this on business trips many, many times. Just make sure to address it with the following noted on the label like this with your information:

Jane Doe/guest - arriving 7/30/2012

The hotel will accept the delivery and hold it until you arrive. At check-in they will/should alert you that they have a package for you, otherwise ask.

Also, obviously, have the tracking info with you in case there is a problem you need to follow up on.

I have uploaded the PDFs and had posters printed locally at my destination and delivered to the hotel. Sometimes there is a printer (business center or FedEx/Kinkos) either in the hotel or around the corner. Totally worth a $5 or so drop off fee.

(Shhh... don't tell! It gives me or a collaborator a few more hours to add last minute data

All the time. I am known to order from zappos when I'm away to fix wardrobe issues. It's a running joke amongst my colleagues.

Like Diana, I usually bring poster with me (in addition to the carry-on) and act offended if someone tries to take it away. Typically it is either allowed on board without any questions or, if the space is tight, the flight attendants check it at the gate (for free).
