OT: Gift ideas

How's the Christmas shopping going? I have one more present to buy, then I'm DONE!

I thought this would be a great thread to share any gifts we bought that we are excited about giving. Not so much about the luxury/expensive gifts, but more the "Oh, that's cool" or "I never would have thought of that" type gift.

Ugg, it is meant to be the last day for posting to NZ and I am not going to be ready until tomorrow. It shouldn't be a problem, but every year I think that I am going to make the date and don't!

My favourite gifts that I have bought so far are some cufflinks for DH from this shop on Etsy - http://www.etsy.com/shop/Cuftlynx?ref=seller_info

and also some little tins of sweets that I bought my Mum in Rome. We are also giving Mum and Dad tickets to The Globe in London when they come over in June next year.

I also do a lot of baking gifts at Christmas, so that will be my weekend before Christmas taken up!

They are currently 30% off and I thought they'd make a fun and well-received gift for my close girlfriends who have kids. Got one for my boyfriend's mom as well and plan to give it to her pre-filled with pictures of her granddaughters.

I like it! I recently got a chico bag because I know I would forget to bring along a full size reusable bag half the time. The chico folds up into itself and clips on your keyring or purse or wherever. Such a simple but cool thing! http://www.olivebarn.com/chicobag-vita.html Would make great stocking stuffers.

Oh, just remembered! I did pick up a couple of crystal bottle stoppers similar to this one at Pottery Barn to give as hostess gifts.

Well, can't get the link to work. They are crystal star shaped wine bottle stoppers.

Arrgghh....We bought my sister a new monitor for her computer (early-it conked out a few weeks ago) and I got her a fleece sheet set in leopard print that she wanted, but thats all Ive done. Not even any decorating/cards yet! Im SO behind....except I did get my YLF secret santa gift out already- yay!

I like to give, and receive, experiences. I've given tickets for concerts and sporting events, gift certificates for spas, vouchers for hot air balloon rides. Another nice idea is a basket of edibles- chocolate or sweets, gourmet pasta, nuts, etc..

I haven't started shopping yet!

Wow, AJ, I am impressed with your organization skills! I am usually shopping until the last minute and the whole holiday season is usually a blur for me. For the first time in 4 years, I am actually sending out holiday cards this year - got portraits & xmas cards done last week!!! I just need to find frames since some of the portraits will serve as xmas presents. I also need to pick up gift cards for a bunch of miscellaneous people on the list - teachers, bus driver etc. I usually see my cousins the weekend after xmas so I usually hit the after xmas sales - last year we met up at Woodbury Commons so I just bought them presents while we were there!! My one cousin is trying to build up his library and always requests books - I was going to try and find the new Mark Twain autobiography for him or maybe the Stieg Larsson trilogy. I am still stumped on what to get my brother and his new wife...

Ugh, I'm even having a hard time shopping for my kids this year. So, needless to say, I'm far from done. DH is getting a few things he asked for and a gift certificate to a climbing gym he's been wanting to try but hasn't gotten around to yet.

I made cute little makeup bags for the kids' teachers and filled them with little packets of coffee, hot chocolate and herbal tea plus some truffles and tiny little crayola candy canes.

My dad's getting a new drill and we got my sister a headlamp for camping and some drill bits.

Other than that, I'm stumped.

Do you want to know what gift is causing the greatest excitement in my house for Christmas? It's this:

Master 6 bought this for his Daddy with his own money as he felt it important that we own a dartboard that was "safe". (His Dad had just won his local office's Dart competition. He got a huge medallion as the prize and Master 6 was ~incredibly~ impressed!)

He is beside himself with excitement and the pressie is already wrapped and under the tree! (Wonder how many hours/days he'll last until he spills the beans......)
