This is such a great group of people with such varied lives and tastes, I'd love to know what you all are enjoying reading these days. I'm a big reader so I'm always interested in hearing about new (and new to me) books!

I just finished Patti Smith's "Just Kids" and it was one of my favorite reads in a long time.

I'm reading all about RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), and my cookbooks, and every magazine under the sun. I am not a big fiction reader.

Just finished "The Weird Sisters" for my book club which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Our next book is Moloka'i (sp?) but I haven't started it yet.

My favorite recent book club book was "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" LOVED it!

Janet, I love these threads and always enjoy hearing what others are reading. I just finished reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, a man and his dog story told from the dog's perspective.

Angie, still having wrist problems? Hope you can get to the bottom of it.

That's funny, Janet! I just started reading "Just Kids" by Patti Smith (it won the National Book Award last year....rock on, Patti!)

Just finished reading a novel "The Space Between Us".....a beautiful (but sad) story about a servant and the family she works for in India.

I recently saw a miniseries called "The Pillars of the Earth" on TV and decided to read the book afterwards (first book I've ever read by Ken Follett, actually!). Before that it was "Women Don't Ask" (a book about the negotation gender gap, written by an economics professor at Carnegie Mellon).

I just finished reading "The Informationist", am now reading "Our Times, the Age of Elizabeth II", and tomorrow will be going to hear an author talk on "A Covert Affair: The Adventures of Julia Child and Paul Child in the OSS".

I bought a bunch of books last week at the local Borders that is going out of business (SO sad...Borders is one of my favourite places to hang out). I just finished a fabulous thriller "Bad Things Happen" by Michael Dolan. Just getting ready to start The Penguin Book of Gaslight Crime.

@sarah, I read "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" last summer... it's a pretty incredible read! fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time.

I also love these kinds of threads !! I have 4 books on my Kindle waiting to be read and probably 8 or so my my bed to get to and now I have about 6 more due to you guys !!

I just finished last night, The Art of Travel, by Alain de Botton ( I love everything by him, next up will be How Proust Can Change Your Life. ) So tonight, I started The First American, the biography of Benjamin Franklin by H.W. Brands. After Proust, I want to read the Informationist and then a book called Fractals ( a relatively new discovery on natural shapes that defy conventional geometry).

I don't like fashion magazines anymore, since discovering this site, because they now seem so impractical to me.

I don't generally like fiction.

I'm reading Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond. I've had it on my shelf for ages and just got around to it. Diamond is such a good writer--I hate to put it down.

Kristine --I read Pillars of the Earth and World without End then fell into right into The Outlander and Lord John series by Diana Gabaldon. It was an awesome summer/fall of reading----eager awaiting the next issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm taking a break from re-reading Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series from beginning to end, and am also re-reading Memoirs of a Geisha. I just started re-reading the Outlander series as well (which Patty mentioned above.)

I'm a compulsive re-reader. Buying my favorite books is actually a pretty good investment in terms of cost-per-use.

I have a kindle so of course, I am reading 10 things at the same time.
I just finished the Harry Potter series (loved it!). Currently, I am toggling between Jane Eyre (just saw the new movie), Guns, Germs and Steele (Jared Diamond), Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom), The Fall (Book 2 of the Strain trilogy by Guillermo del Toro), and Gone with the Wind, depending on my mood.

I watched Pillars of the Earth, too. It was pretty good.

I love these threads too. I just finished The Memory Keeper's Daughter which I enjoyed. I also picked up some old Dorothy Sayer's and Ruth Rendell mysteries from a library sale. I'm loving those. Not very deep but highly entertaining.

Oooh, I've been looking forward to the new Jane Eyre movie. I heard it was good. I'm still very partial to the most recent miniseries, though.

Just finished The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, and The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. Now I'm on to From Hell by Alan Moore (yea for comics!), Saul Bellow: Letters, and sauteing my way through Suzanne Goin's Sunday Suppers at Lucques.

I'm reading multiple books at once too - The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, which I read in undergrad and did not properly appreciate, Odd Girl Out, The Lacuna by Kingsolver (I'm not very far in - does it get better Marley?), and a mystery series that I don't really like but that my dean recommended and promised that it gets better (The Haunted Bookshop series).
