OT for cat parents - does your kitty ever lay like this

I have known a few cats in my time, but this is the only cat I've known that lays like this; all fours in the air! She also incessantly jumps up onto the counter to sit on my husband's homework (he is in school for interior design so often is drawing or cutting, glueing). It is the ONLY time she jumps up there and no matter how many times we lift her down she gets back up. She is a cat obsessed!

My cats will lay like that sometimes, they're such strange beasts! And of COURSE she wants up on the papers; the only thing better would be a basket of clean laundry.

Neither of my cats lays like this (unless they are getting belly rubs), but I volunteer with an animal rescue group and I recently placed a cat who does exactly this. What makes it really funny is that the cat is overweight with a very round belly, so when she flops over and puts her paws in the air, she's really showing off what she's got! It is adorable!

Nadya, yes, the only way we can get her to stop is to ignore her; eventually she will jump down on her own and stop. But we can't risk it if he's got the glue gun going; she is not that smart, so that could be a bad scene...

Steph...AWWWWW. Love the big belly. (-: Our cat also leaves one paw sticking out behind her when she curls into a ball. Very odd. Cat really are all individuals, eh?

My first dog totally did. Actually, she would sometimes fall asleep on her back, believe it or not. It was adorable.

Our current dog *hates* lying on her back, rolling over, etc. - but she'll totally let us manipulate her into doing it.

All of mine lay like this when it is hot! Sometimes we come home, and it's like they've all toppled over, lol.

I don't have a cat but two of my dogs do. In fact, Zepar sleeps like that under the covers. He's a nerd. I'm trying to find a photo as I KNOW one exists somewhere.

rae...hehe...would love to see that. Our kitty also loves to get in the sink and curl up. And she is NOT a small cat. In the morning I have to watch her because she'll get in the sink right before I go to brush my teeth and it's really difficult to get her out because she is so big!

I had a black cat that always slept "toes up." He looked really cute. He also had short legs and a chubby body. Once when I took him in for a check-up the vet called him "cat meatloaf."

Right now my 2 1/2 year old female cat will sleep tummy up in the early morning when the sunshine first hits my bed. She mostly sleeps at my feet all curled up.

Oh yes all 4 of them do that. I am glad to hear someone else has the cat in the sink problem. I thought we had the only one that did that! Bubble would sleep in there all night and getting her out in the morning was a nightmare
The worst thing she did was to wait untill DH left the room with the lap top on the table, then she got on to it and scrabbled her claws. the keys all came off. I had to call my PA and get her to talk me through which letter went where!! I have yet to live that one down.

Our cat Sabrina is the most upside-down cat in the world! She's constantly like that, she loves it!

Such adorable kitty pictures! Jeneva, my cat used to sleep that occasionally. She's gone now and I don't have a photo of her sleeping totally on her back, but here is one of my favorites of her sleeping.

I think it's a sign of a very relaxed and contented cat that will sleep that way with it's belly exposed.

Oh yes, Jack does this often, but ONLY when he's on the floor. He'll also roll around on his back while he's in his sleep and we'll hear his head hit the floor with a big thump, but he'll just keep on sleeping.

ETA: This picture was also taken because he was completely asleep but his eyes weren't fully closed. What a weirdo!

All of mine lay like that. It's adorbs. I've heard it's a sign of contentment to expose ones belly, so take it as a compliment that you're doing a good job. All of mine lay like this when they're fast asleep and enjoy a belly rub.

I love when they do that! I'll be walking down the stairs and my kitty will just plop down in front of me and roll over to expose her belly. I think it's her signal she wants a rub. My dog also sleeps that way and it's just adorable.

We also share the kitty in the sink/bathtub issue which I try to combat by keeping the doors closed!

We had a big Belgian Sheepdog that would do this with her long legs sticking straight out propped against a wall. I don't know about cats but we were told that dogs will rest like this only when they feel secure in their surroundings.

Everyone's photos are SO CUTE!!! I had a cat that did this constantly, I'll have to see if I can find a photo of her doing that when I get home (she also used to love the sink!). My other cat HATES his tummy touched (which is too bad because he's roly-poly and it's super duper soft!) so he doesn't sleep like this. He does sleep on his side a lot with his tummy exposed, and often has one arm/leg sticking out. I find it hilarious that he and my husband are often chilling in the same position (see below, totally unstaged; I looked over, saw them, and snapped a photo before they knew what was happening then proceeded to giggle all evening).

yep, our Mocha used to go into what we called the manatee pose. She was very comfortable around the BF and would not only offer up her belly, she would crawl into his shirt and up out the collar to almost kiss him!
