Currently I have this flat iron:

It does a great job and I have no complaints. But recently I thought one of the things I could do to get through this awkward growing-out stage is add some wave or curl, like so:

The Solia is rounded enough to curl effectively and works on some of my longer bits, but 1.25" is too wide for my most of my hair to wrap around the plate.

Solia also makes this tiny .5" flat iron and it is only $40. I thought it would also come in handy for when I get bangs cut. Is it TOO small? There is also this .75" version: http://www.folica.com/Solia_Tourmalin_d1690.html but it's a lot more expensive for just being a little bit thicker...

Which one is better?
