OT: Favorite holiday cocktails?

I'm hosting a small holiday cocktail party at my house tomorrow, for friends to visit with my parents and for an excuse to wear something fancy. I have been looking at all kinds of cocktail recipes and think I'd like to do one "punchbowl" style drink, like spiked eggnog, hot buttered rum, and two other drinks (hopefully one involving peppermint schnapps).

Does anyone have suggestions for a favorite holiday drink?

for the punchbowl drink...consider wassail or mulled wine.

cocktails,,,i'm old school...manhattans, G&Ts, gin martinis hold the frou, whiskey sours. or, when lazy, unscrew jw black (single malt if i really like my guests) and call it a night.

to get festive, you could serve cosmos (red) and appletinis made with sour apple schnapps (green). or vodka and chartreuse (also green).

I don't know too many cocktails, but I remember someone served Lemondrops at their holiday party... the sugared rim was kind of like snow, and it was tasty.

My favourite cocktail is a strong cuppa Earl Grey tea with a spot of skimmed milk and sugar.

I always feel like brown liquor during the holidays. I love Manhattans, but you could go Mad Men and serve Old Fashioneds...very glam yet tasty!

For the peppermint schnapps you could have Snugglers (aka Peppermint Pattys) with hot chocolate. Not a punch bowl drink, but nice and warm in the AK weather

Also hot cider with Tuaca and a cinnamin stick in it is a yummy hot drink (Hot Apple Pie).

I could see how lemon drops could be fun and festive, as well

Ooh, I think Old Fashioneds would be fun! Hot cider sounds festive and delicious, too. Mmm.

For holiday cocktails I go for warmth. I like Buttered Rum, spiked teas (usually with Amaretto, Crown Royal, or Grand Marnier), and spiked hot chocolates (either with cinnamon OR peppermint). I highly suggest getting Yukon Jack Permafrost (peppermint+cinnamon) for the cocoa. The Hot Apple Pie Mo suggested is also good! I don't have any recipes, but I am a huge fan of spiked (and non-spiked) eggnog and warm buttered rum, so I like the way you think!

Spiked hot chocolate is so good - not so much for a party though, more for hanging out in front of the fire on a cold evening. I like peppermint or butterscotch schnapps in mine.

Homemade egg nog is the best! We made it once- 16 years ago, and people still bring it up to us how much they enjoyed it (even people who don't like egg nog).

Tricia you must be going to way more happening parties than me! I make spiked hot chocolate/tea for "parties" when we have friends over and plan to sit around the fire pit outside.

HA! No, I have a two-year-old and a four-year-old, so what you're describing is my idea of a happening party right now too (I love our fire pit!) I was thinking of the parties I attended back in my misspent youth - when the peppermint schnapps was more likely to be poured down an ice luge than into a mug of hot cocoa.

We're big fans of hot spiced apple cider during the holidays. Make a basic pot by putting a gallon of apple cider in a pot take an orange throw in an orange studded with clove and a few cinnamon sticks and simmer. For those who like it 'stout' have cinnamon schnapps available to add on a per cup basis.

A friend gave me a bottle of pomegranate vodka, so I did a google search and came up with pomegranate flirtinis: a shot of pomegranate vodka, a dash of grenadine for color, and fill the glass with chamagne. DH and I have been drinking them all day and are very happy indeed!

I had a different drink called Hot Apple Pie the other day - Apple Pucker, Cinnamon Goldschlager and hot cranberry juice, it was yummy.
