OT: anyone likes Sookie Stackhouse books or True Blood?

its kind of weird but I was never into vampire fic until I read the first Sookie Stackhouse book by charlaine Harris(for those who don't know, True Blood show is based on these books however books are more PG-13 rating while show rates R+). I always thought the storyline sounded stupid as hell but after I read first one, I couldn't wait to read the second, etc. I am on #8. I have not read any other vampire fiction to be honest but this one is really addictive

I hear that they have a huge following. I have never read any of them or seen the show. I keep telling myself that I should read fiction.

I just finished the 1st one - and I can't wait to start the next one. I think it was recommended on YLF at some point and I'd added them to my library queu. I have not watched the show, but might after I've read a few more of them.

I do! Haven't caught up on my TB watching, but I do like the books. A friend of mine acquired them for print, so I have a personal interest in them since I feel like their success reflects well on m buddy. And he says the author is a lovely woman and deserves every bit of fame and compensation she can get.

I have read all of the books except the most current one. I liked them more in the beginning but now find them to be too repetitive. Same story different characters to a certain degree.

I do however love the show even though it gets a little bit too graphic for me sometimes. My husband bought me the viking charm for my Pandora bracelet and I named it Eric, haha.

I watch the show but have never read the books.

BTW, I've always been into vampires although the Twilight series got me going again.

I didn't like True Blood, so I didn't read the series. I do like vamps in general though, I love vampire Diaries, liked Twilight and am currently reading Julie Kagawa's new vampire novel - The Immortal Rules.

I like vampire stories, but haven't had a chance yet to read the Sookie Stackhouse books. I have watched all the seasons on TV though - once you start, it's addictive and I dig Alexander Skarsgard as Eric;-) I have to admit that it has become more of a habit now, over the last two seasons the storylines have been getting sillier and way over the top. I'm still curious about the books though.

Inge, the books and the series are pretty divergent. I enjoy the books as a fun beach read, and the series as escapist silliness. So they're both a bit of a guilty pleasure!

I dooo! It is a guilty pleasure for sure. The other series I enjoyed, which is a little more R rated, is the first handful of books in the Anita Blake vampire hunter series. It gets pretty saucy in the later books, but the first few focus a more on plot and less on how many supernatural beings you can pile in (on?) to a sexual encounter. Fun fashion sidenote: The first book was originally written in 1993, which becomes very apparent in the descriptions of Anita's outfits.

Oh absolutely, Dana. Escapist silliness (books, movies and TV series) is one of my favourite ways to relax, so I have no problem with that aspect whatsoever:-) I'm just not that into the TV series anymore.
Lovely to hear that your friend knows Charlaine Harris personally. I definitely want to read the books too, it will be fun to compare.
