I think it really depends on the individual. I saw a lady with a gray mix similar to mine (dingy mix of gray/brown) with a really great cut and it made all the difference in how I viewed her gray. I do love gray hair when it's got more gray than dark or the dark is really dark for a nice salt/pepper look. Mine is neither so I color and await the day I can go gray.

Maryk, wow! You look 20 years younger now.

My hair was very slow to start turning gray. I began coloring it at age 55 but now I wish I had waited. After a few mishaps with colorists I found someone who could do it just right. Lately though I am not happy--we're having a hard time making the color dark enough to match my old "real color." I feel washed out and that the blonder look doesn't quite go with my coloring.

My husband is freaky about gray hair. He thinks I should dye it forever, but when the day comes that enough has turned gray (hairdresser says I'm still at less than 20% gray) I will let it go. I'm tired of having to plan my appointments around trips and special events.

I really don't know. I just started coloring mine about a year and a half ago. I've been slowly going gray since I was about 18 and I'm turning 40 this year. My husband LOVES gray hair in a crazy way and he would be thrilled if I let mine go. I'm not ready for that but I'm thinking of stopping coloring around 50 or 60.

About "Going Gray, Looking Great", that book is going for some crazy prices on Amazon. $999 for a used copy??? Yikes! I'm glad my library has it. It looks like an interesting read.

Goodness I thought this thread had died but still lots of conversation on this topic.

Meredith I love your hair now. I'll be checking my library for Going grey looking great.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. If anyone else responds I'll be reading your comments but won't be responding unless I'm aked a auestion,
