Oscars fashions- winners? Pics added

I didn't watch the Oscars - I rarely watch award ceremonies of any type unless I have to - ie school prizegivings!!

I have seen some pics of the oscar fashions though - I thought the looks were classy and interesting. My pics so far are
- Lupita Nyong'o- wow this dress was made for her.
- Octavia Spencer- another gorgeous dress on a stunning woman.
- Alison Janney - really elegant and classy - would love to wear this.
- Jane Fonda- modern and fierce
- Miley Cyrus in her black and cream dress....old style glamour.

And I loved that Siriano dominated the design stakes!!

Nicole Kidman reminded me of a glamorous Barbie doll. From what I've seen, I would have to agree with your list.

I loved Maya Rudolph's gown. I also liked Soairse Ronan’s blush gown, and Meryl Streep’s too.

Sal, I'm totally on-board with your list. Alison Janney's dress made me exclaim with pleased surprised - I loooooved the sleeves, in particular.

Jane Fonda made me think of a prime-time 80s villainess in her dress - in a good way!

Lupita always looks incredible. I think part of it is her amazing physique - and that she doesn't seem to go for girly ruffly things.

Octavia always looks incredible, too. She rocks bombshell gowns.

I missed Miley! Going to look her up.

Nicole Kidman's gown... I could not decide. I loved it and I hated it. It wasn't until she was walking offstage, that I thought, "if they'd only flipped the skirt around before attaching it to the bodice, I think I would love it unconditionally".

I thought Helen Mirren, Chita Rivera, Laurie Metcalf, and Jennifer Garner all looked gorgeous.

I was too busy laughing at Maya Rudolph's presentation, to notice what she was actually wearing - which is a win in my book

Emma Watson! I forgot about Emma! I loved her gown!

I couldn't decide about Salma Hayek's dress. I loved the cascading jewels on the neckline and sleeves. I wasn't sure what I thought of the ruffles and the color. Sometimes I loved them, sometimes I did not.

My favorite was Helen Mirren. The color was perfect for her, and I loved her hair. I want my hair to look like hers. My second favorite was Tiffany Haddish and the dress she keeps wearing. This was the third time she’s worn it in public. I love that. As a plus, it looks good on her. Maya Rudolph reminded me of The Handmaids Tale.

I have to agree with your comments about Helen Mirren JAileen,What a fab colour with her hair and how elegant is that gown,a master class in occasion dressing.

I didn't watch either. Glued to a far more interesting NHL game. Everytime I did click over to see what was going on, it was pretty uninteresting. I think I'm over the whole awards show thing now . I did see MJB singing and though she looked fantastic - especially her hair. Nicole Kidman's dress was very cool, but I was so distracted by how incredibly thin she is and how big her head is compared to her body. Not good. I liked Frances McDormand's choice of dress because it looked authentic to her. The rest of them were a blur of sameness.

Interesting thoughts - Helen Mirren always looks fantastic - what a class act.

Mary J Blige also looked terrific and how cool of Tiffany Reddish to keep wearing a dress.

I wasn't such a fan of Salma's dress but I like that it was interesting. And I thought the red pants suit worn by Janelle Morae was awesome (Christian Siriano design)

Lisa - I actually thought it was more interesting fashion wise than normal - lots of colour, some pants suits, some fashion derived from attendees cultures, some metallic, some loose.... But I find the shows very drawn out - and not a priority to watch. I also don't watch the sports awards shows or music awards shows.

I didn't watch the Oscars, but you prompted me to look through the red carpet looks on Vogue.
I don't know who Leslie Manville is, but I think she is stunning in this gown.

I agree with you! Jane Fonda was my absolute favorite, with Allison Janney, a close second.
I did not fancy Nicole Kidman's gown, it looked somewhat passe to me.
I also enjoyed the fact that Frances McDormand did not wear any make up, and her speech was amazing!

Seeing everyone in black at the Golden Globes was so breathtaking, it made this year's Oscars feel boring and predictable, no? Frances McDormand's speech was excellent, and she looked lovely -- I too liked that she chose not to wear make-up; it's perhaps the strongest statement you can make at these shows.

I agree that Nicole Kidman's dress emphasized how gaunt she is -- shining example of "the clothes wearing the woman" imho.

Saoirse Ronan looked adorable in pink, Lupita Nyong'o's gown reminded me of armor in the best way, and Helen Mirren was really stunning. I also rather liked Greta Gerwig in saffron -- the colour struck me as both unique and approachable, somehow.

I have to say I often find the more modest styles to be the most attention-grabbing at these events, which are such a sea of strapless/backless/plunging necklines. It's interesting to think about how one goes about standing out at an event where everyone is making an effort to stand out...

My favourite was Jane Fonda with Helen Mirren as a close second. How lovely did they look! So great to see older ladies killing it.

I also loved the metallics that Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o wore.

Jennifer Garner was also a stand out, stunning in every way.

Whilst I appreciated the sentiment behind wearing black at the Golden Globes, it was fun to see colourful outfits on the red carpet again.

I think you made good picks Sal, although I have to say, Lupita N'yongo could wear anything and still look like a goddess. Octavia Spencer glows in the beautiful green. I'm not a Miley fan usually, but that pick was a knock-out. I also thought Zendaya looked stunning.

What I really loved too what that the men kicked it up a notch! Chadwick Boseman set the bar pretty high for men's fashion - no boring tux for him!

Didn't watch but saw Frances McDormand's speech. I find her inspiring in every way!

I normally always review the fashion at award shows. This year I have not had time, but I did note both Helen Mirren and

Lupita Nyong'o. So among the sea of dresses, both of those individuals stood out to me. I loved both those dresses for different reasons. I should say that both dresses were very true to the individual as well.
