Ellen is just a fantastic host. She makes a very, very long show move by. We stayed until the bitter end and were so grateful for her! Una, did you see pics of her bringing in pizza? Gathering celebs for a group selfie to try to capture "most tweeted" pic on Twitter? Very fun.
I tend to love the minimal clean red carpet looks and this year was no exception. I absolutely loved Naomi Watts in the beaded white short sleeve Calvin column with spider web diamond choker, Emma Watson in sparkly charcoal Vera Wang with black trumpet skirt, Jennifer Lawrence in red strapless Dior. I thought Glenn Close was the best of the women "of a certain age" in her long-sleeved black Zac Posen with trumpet skirt. When she came out to present, she looked truly amazing. I also must call out Kerry Washington, who looked like a ripe plum. Has a pregnant woman ever looked so lush?
I am not a huge fan of pale blue and the style was not among my personal favorites, but I thought Lupita looked beautiful. It was a fresh color on her skin and perfect for someone so young. With the little headband, she looked more like the ingenue she is, or maybe was, before winning this award. Her red dress from the Globes and her comportment make it easy to consider her an established actress but 12 Years was her first acting job out of school! I love that this dress, its color and simplicity, celebrated her youth.
And finally, for pure fun, my favorite couple look was Pharrell Williams and his wife -- he in Lanvin tuxedo shorts, she in a tux with black straight pants, a short white jacket, and a black floppy tie. Also loved Michael B Jordan with his silver tux embellishments.
A great Oscar night (agreed with all the awards -- how could Gravity not win the technicals?) and a fun fashion night too.
