Oscar dresses!

I'm watching the Oscars and here are some dresses that I especially like.

Queen Latifah -- Great sheen, neck detail and sleeves. On TV I thought the dress was dark blue, but this picture looks black. Did anyone else thing the dress was dark blue?
Helen Mirren -- Color, waist detail and sleeves

Bette Midler -- Love the flowers, colors and sleeves. It looked less see thru on tv, but I'm ok with it, she's got great legs!

ETA -- I had to add Olivia Coleman for her beautiful green Prada dress.

All ladies are killing it!

5th picture is Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, don't you love the authentic retro cowboy outfits?

I love that dress Letitia Wright is in. And I also like all those suits. But hey, we’ve yet to mention Billy Porter in Christian Siriano (Christian had a big night tonight, dressed a lot of people). I have to confess I feel it’s too long in the waist, lol.

Lots more misses than loves this year for me.
But I agree with Rachylou, a big yes to Billy Porter in Christen Siriano
Also loved Julia Roberts dress.

I didn’t watch much last night but I loved all the pink that I did see! Awkwafina’s suit was amazing (I would wear it!) and I loved loved loved Gemma Chan’s dress. Such a fantasy! I also thought Mahershala Ali looked great, beanie and all.

Cocolion: see Crazy Rich Asians. Beautiful costumes and sets, and Awkwafina is fab.

Oh Julia Roberts! She is my eternal girl crush!
Chris Evans was looking very dapper. And he was quite the gentleman escorting Regina King to the stage, who btw was also looking fabulous!

We don’t go to the movies much, yet we saw the nominated shorts - documentary, live action and animated. *

Awkwafina hosted SNL, and was interviewed on NPR. I had no idea who Billy Porter is, yet he also wore an incredible outfit to the Golden Globes.

SO WITH YOU DENISE. It was a fabulous show!

I LOVE award season. Although I prefer tv shows to movies, I enjoy the Academy Awards enormously. We watched all 8 Oscar nominated movies this year, and enjoyed it.

My vote for BEST movies: Blackkklansman, Vice, Roma, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book.

Cheering for: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Melissa McCarthy, Olivia Coleman, and Adam Driver

The hostless show worked SO much better than with a host. It gave the actors more time to present and speak, which is what it’s all about.

Some musings:

The opening act with Queen was perfect!
The duet between Lady Gaga & Bradley Copper BROUGHT THE ROOF DOWN. It was absolutely KILLER SUBLIME, and one of the most memorable Oscar moments of all time. If they didn’t win the award for best song - which they did! - I would be boycotting the Oscars.
The care they took to select the person to introduce each of the eight Oscar nominated movies was AMAZING. That Trevor Noah introduced Black Panther was moving. That Barbara Streisand introduced Blackkklansman was fabulous.
Very disappointed that Christian Bale did not win Best Actor. He was so much better than Rami Malek!
Disappointed that Adam Driver didn’t win Best Supporting Actor
Disappointed that Blackkklansman got only one Oscar
Loved that Olivia Coleman won Best Actress.
Olivia Coleman gave the best acceptance speech!
Lady Gaga ROCKS
Loved that Blackkklansman won Best Adapted Screenplay
Loved how Spike Lee embraced Samuel L Jackson on stage
Javier Bardem gave the best presentation speech
Loved that Bohemian Rhapsody won the Sound Editing and Sound Mixing Awards
Loved that Vice won Best Makeup
Loved that Roma won three awards
Loved that Black Panther won Best Costume Design
Green Book won Best Movie which was very unexpected.
Very angry about the men NOT giving Octavia Spencer her limelight when Green Book won for Best Movie. They hogged the microphone and didn’t pull her in (she was an executive producer). She stood to the side and smiled. That was a very bad Oscar moment.

Onto the fashion!

Best hair: Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Coleman, Constance Wu, Lady Gaga, Meagan Good,Julia Roberts, Octavia Spencer, Helen Mirren, Glenn Close

All in all, the dress code seemed less formal and more relaxed - which I thought worked. I didn’t have an ultimate favourite outfit, but these were some of my favourite looks of the night. There are more, but I've run out of time.

Seconding Bella on Regina King. She ALWAYS looks amazing. So classic and elegant last night. My favorite by far. Although I was LOVING all the pants on women! I would totally wear pants if I was at the Oscars

I loved most of the fashion.
I think the show started so well because of how fabulous and high energy the opening was. How to set the stage with the same impact next year will be a challenge.
I also thought the choice of who presented each best picture was very thoughtful.

What about Adam Lambert's jewelry? I couldn't take my eyes off of it! And his orchid was sublime. I don't know how to add a pic. So many stunning women and men. Lots of creative outfits I though this year.

Loved your long and detailed commentary Angie - thank you for taking the time to write it all out! And I agree with nearly everything, except that I was very happy to see Rami Malek win (I haven't seen Vice yet though, but will do so soon). I also thought the Gaga/Cooper song was amazing and a beautiful, tender moment; cannot understand, however, how SO many people believe that there is a hidden romance and how could they in front of his girlfriend, etc., etc. Why would they not re-enact the feeling/atmosphere from the movie?! Absolutely appropriate.
I was very surprised by the Green Book win as well. I liked it, but it was nowhere near the top for me.

Great fashion all around! I enjoyed the evening very much!

I enjoyed watching the Oscars so much and I loved that there was a lot of colorful dresses. My favorites were Helen Mirren, Awkwafina, Emilia Clarke (loved the color), Queen Latifah, and like Viva, I think Gemma Chan's dress was gorgeous. Although I was rooting for Roma (I am a few years younger than Cuaron, but the movie brings back a lot of memories from my childhood and my country back then - as we say in Spanish "el México que se nos fue"), I knew the competition for best movie was though, but Green Book win came as a complete surprise. I thought Vice or Blackkklansman were going to win.
