You know you have a real first- world problem when you still can’t decide the best way to organize your hanging clothes.

I’ve used various category systems— always separating tops, bottoms, jackets but within tgst, I tried silhouette- based top distinctions, such as short- boxy, long etc, but it turns out there’s a fair amount of overlap or just “ picky- picky” on the differences. Or tried only short or long sleeves. And I like color- coding for visual calm and to see, wow, how did I get so much navy!

But in thinking about wears and seasons, I tend to dress by temperature even though I dress way more the same, due to air- conditioning and running cold, than most folks, and also find that thicker or heavier tops often look more finished or polished ( except when I know I will be “ seen” in a jacket and need best layering/ outfit coordination)

By that I mean I tend to wear the warmest things as long as I can or mix them back in for a drop in temp, but I also wear lighter weights when we are at peak summer for weeks. I tried wearing some merino knits truly year- round but they just are not right for 3-4 months, primarily coming and going, hot car after work, it’s too much. Though I think there could be some perfect ultra- light versions if I found them in my perfect styles and colors.

Also, BTW I hang ALL my work clothes including all sweaters and knits. No folding.

Thus it makes sense to hang a group of heavier wool knits, then merino weights, then thick linen cotton, lightweight linen, woven as, and so on.
Several of these “ weights” have duped in 2 colors which can be good to identify if the top is good but a color is orphaned, or what.
The result is more hectic re: visual color but seems to make more sense for checking the weather and for saying, hmm,” this far end of heavy knits is about finished for the temps now “, or, wow, I don’t need any more short- sleeved tops! ( or, “ I have a wardrobe hole for a specific top). And this might play into my finding that I actually run more seasonal than I admit, and might need loose capsules of specific fabrications that seem to be seasonal fit me, for whatever reason. I know I can color Code within categories but that will still not give the organized “ rainbow”.

Over to you— are you very fabric- oriented , or color- coding sensitive, or what?

The good thing of course is that, unlike World Peace, I can play with rearranging if I don’t find it working.
