So, I still haven’t decided. I think this is the first time when I’ve reopened a box bound for a return (the shearling) because of doubt; the price also dropped 25%, which didn’t hurt. So long for decisive action.
My reconsidération of the shearling was prompted by the sudden temperature drop today. I was able to test both garments outside for a minute in a windy -4 wearing a t-shirt underneath. Not what I call winter, but colder than what we’ve experienced so far. I’m headed up north to colder pastures for a few days, so cold is definitely on my mind, even if I end up taking my restrictive puffer.
The shearling was definitely warmer, though the cashmere was warmer than I expected it to be. There was less shedding on my t-shirt than the first time.
I still have a few more days to decide before the return window draws to a close. They’re both so different.
What’s keeping me back from the trench is the price and concern that it’s too big in the neck area; it seems to fall lower on me than on the model, and the belt is a bit lower than my natural waist. It’s not a deal breaker, but neither is an issue with my other trench. What’s keeping me back from the shearling is the price and the casual vibe — do I want to pay a premium price to look dressed down, albeit dressed down with a cool vibe?
If I don’t keep either, I’ll at least have enjoyed touching luxe fabrics and having a few days of a fantasy wardrobe. If I keep one, then I have an awesome addition to winter wear, and a bit of extra work and cutting corners to compensate for the price. If I keep both, then I’m reckless and will opt out of shopping for the next few months, barring essentials.
