Hi Ladies,

Some weeks ago I shared that I was invited onto a committee organizing some of our Fashion Festival events. Well all is going well and I am having so much fun as this ticks all the boxes for me combining my love of community (there is a fundraising component), fashion and events management.

I have now been asked to MC/Host the big Fashion Parade on September 18 which I have happily agreed to... But I am feeling a bit pressured about what I am going to wear:)

This dress is from the Modcloth website by Motel. I am wondering if anyone can provide any feedback on Modcloth for me. I have read the reviews and it seems the fabric is quite thin and while the workmanship is excellent the feeling is its not worth the price. Also if the fabric is too thin then it won't be very forgiving of my lumps and bumps lol.

Also if anyone has any ideas for a outfit for the parade I would be grateful. My mind is a bit of a blank.

I have been considering a pencil skirt and peplum top (which I need to purchase).

I have never ordered anything from modcloth, so can't help there.

That dress is very attractive, but I am wondering if it is a bit classic for your current style direction?

If you can't find a peplum top, I bet one of your other dressy outfits that you have shown us before will be okay.

I am sure your impeccable fashion eye and grooming will make you a standout!

That sounds like fun Deborah - sorry I can't help with the quality question on this dress but whatever you choose I'm sure it will be perfect! I love the idea of the peplum top.

Deb., I think you are on the right track with this dress!
The style would create a nice hourglassy shape , and when I imagine the job of M.C. a dress seems to be the correct attire. Assuming you go in this direction, have you considered shapewear for streamlining underneath and addressing any flimsiness concerns?
I am sure you will do a wonderful job, and nailing the outfit will give you an added boost of confidence.

I have ordered from Modcloth. Their designs are eye catching. The overall quality and craftsmanship is at par with stores like H&M perhaps, but they carry different labels. It's hard to say for sure.

Out of the dresses you posted I like #2, #3 and #8. I like the skirt and peplum top idea. Are you sure you need to buy something though?

Deb, you will be a gorgeous MC and what a perfect choice for them to have made!

I have not ordered from Modcloth but friends here who have confirm Zapotee's judgement. Very mixed quality, most not great, some pretty good, depending on the item.

The dresses you linked to are ALL lovely and I can imagine you in any of them. But I, too, wonder if you need something new.Well, any excuse, right?? And I am all for that! But I was just thinking that some of your other things look quite similar to these.

I like the idea of a pencil skirt and peplum top. That would be a slight variation on silhouette and might be fun to play with.

Thanks Zap:) That's what my DH said lol. You chose the ones I am most keen on. In fact I am thinking of trying #2 anyway, just because I think it would be a great Spring dress (I am easily distracted).

Anne thanks for your thoughts. I have a peplum in mind. I tried it on today. Reasonably priced and would definitely wear it a lot after the event. I have a wedding in March and I had actually been putting together a similar ourfit in my mind for the wedding. Anne can you enlighten me re my outfit on May 24? I keep my photos but nothing is dated.

I will post some photos of dresses I already own as Zap and DH are probably right in suggesting that I don't really need to buy anything.

Its funny how much pressure we (or at least "I" ) can put myself under and I have talked myself into thinking that my wardrobe is inadequate for such a function

Hmmm the peplum idea seems like a good one and often it's the first idea that is the best. It's a black ponte peplum top I am looking at. Currently on sale and well within the budget so I might just grab it and do a try on and some photos:) And yes... any excuse really...

I love 2, 3, and 4. All look like you, sophisticated and classy. Can you share your sources? The only one that gives me pause is the last floral print. Maybe only because even though it's dark, it makes me think of summer.

Ahhh CJH it's Spring here so we have our Spring/Summer ranges in store.
Yes of course, all the dresses except #1 are from Ezibuy. It's an online store/range with a variety of labels. Anne has purchased from them before and I thought I would take a look as I haven't seen anything at my usual/favorite stores:(

Ooh No 3 is one I posted to the list a while ago saying I liked it! I like 3, 4 and 9. And the peplum top too.

What fun to be invitied to MC! Congratulations.

Modcloth runs very small in my opinion: I've had to return many items as even a large would not fit me ( I wear a 10/12 in US sizing fairly consistently).However they source from many different vendors and therefore size variability is fairly common with their products.

Thanks Sona, I'm a 10/12 in Australian sizing so I would have the same problem I think

Deborah, I'm going to suggest that for a fashion show, you go sleek and sophisticated. For me, that would be dresses 1, 3, 4, 6, or 9. I think the style and print of #2 is a bit too caftan-ish for the occasion.

If you go with one of the sheath dresses, what about pairing it with a cropped leather jacket? (Don't mind me -- lately I seem to be obsessed with dresses topped by cropped leather jackets...)

Deborah, you rock high contrast black and white like no one else, I think that's what you should go for in your MC outfit. Many of your existing combos would do. A black peplum top would be great, just make sure there is print or colour blocking on your bottom half. If you go with one of the above dresses, I think 1, 5 or 6 are most "you"'.

What kind of outfit is expected for the parade? (Sorry, I just picture a tiara and waving to the crowd.)

Sounds like you're sorting it out. I just wanted to say that the cobalt dress in #3 is stunning -- and probably a nice addition to your wardrobe.

You will be stunning and appropriate, as always.

I would give 5, 8 and 9 a shot. They look really pretty but also amenable to being in the spotlight and being in photos (i.e. you wouldn't want to fuss or worry about what you are wearing). 9 is especially wow!

I think you know that I adore your Style Deborah.

You have some very pretty outifits above but like your husband I don't think you "need" anything new for this event as you have such a gorgeous wardrobe already.

Not sure about any of this but are any of your favourite pieces by a local Australian designer? I think for fashion week that would be a classy addition for the MC of the parade to wear one. What an honor to be chosen, congratulations.

I think 3 and 4 are fab and most likely to hid sins. and the 3 is just TDF color and cut. THAT is what I want for my evening cocktail event.

If this is the same Motel which is stocked in the UK it is predominantly a jnrs brand and yes the quality and finish can be inconsistent. I have a Motel top which I bought on sale but the pattern does not match up which does irk me a little.

I love the idea of the peplum top with a pair of your killer black boots. It would be nod to fashion whilst being true to your personal style.

I vote for 3, 5, and 6. 3 seems the most festive and dramatic, and it's navy--a current hot color, yes?
