I took the plunge and bought two (count 'em!) pleather jackets this year. I was very averse to plunking down a ton of cash for an item I might feel awful about wearing AND that might also not be right for my personal style. I have to say I'm astonished at the difference between the poly "leather" in these, as compared to my recollection of earlier generations of non-leathers. They feel terrific, look terrific, and yes, the ease of care is wonderful.
One jacket I bought is black with sweater-knit sleeves. I actually didn't think I would like it very much, but it turned out to be warm, and roomy without much bulk, and I have worn it a lot. The other is a sand colored moto, and it is entirely pleather, and I haven't worn it as much -- but I think because I have been in a dark palette mood. It is lightly lined, and I don't guess I have worn it in any situation where I can say if it would make me uncomfortable. I threw it over my shoulders on Christmas this year because we had warm weather but a cold wind. It was great to be able to shield myself from the wind and wear a light weight top!
In short, I think trying out a style via inexpensive versions is wonderful!
