Opinions On This Dress? - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Everyone!

A few months ago Ironkurtin told me about a shop that's like Designer TJ Maxx and I finally got the chance to go today. I am currently looking for a cocktail dress for an event at the end of July (and also just to have on hand) and I found this one. I actually really love it, I think it's very "me." I even love the fitted cap sleeves, which are usually verboten in my wardrobe. I am a size 4 on bottom and a size 6 on top (due to my shoulders and bust), so I usually end up buying dresses in a size 6 and having them taken in around the waist and on bottom to fit. This dress is a 4 and it was the only one.

So I'd love to get some opinions, especially on fit around the bust. The dress has built-in cups so a bra isn't necessary (hooray). These pictures are sans bra. The part I'm most concerned about is around the armpits in the front and back. The salesperson said she thought it looked fine (of course, heh). I tend to really hone in on that area and try to cover it up whenever possible. So maybe I'm just not used to it showing and it really does look fine. You can see it most clearly in photos #1 and #5. Please let me know what you think.

I think you look breathtaking Ana! The dress is stunning and so are you in it. I do not see any fit issues whatsoever. Does it feel tight? (Btw, of is the name of this store? Or is it a local thing?)

Thank you for all the opinions so far! It's super helpful for me. The place has a "no returns" policy and the dress is kind of expensive, so I currently have it on hold until tomorrow afternoon. I definitely needed more opinions before taking the plunge. I love YLF!

Debora, It doesn't feel too tight (and hey, no back cleavage!), although it is snug. I can still breathe and sit comfortably in it.

I do see what you are talking about at the underarms. But I am not sure it would have bothered me if you had not mentioned it. It looks as if it's meant to be that way.

Ana, that is simply a lovely dress on you. You are really rocking the lace looks lately! You look gorgeous in it. My only (slight) hesitation is that the color of the cami part is so close to your skin that from a distance (when I glanced at the thumbnail) it looked like the dress was super low cut and the black stripe was your cleavage. But I'm sure it looks different IRL, I wouldn't let that stop you from getting it. It's breathtaking, really!

Sorry to be a downer, but the fit looks good to me, I just am not loving the faux cleavage black line. In a quick glance at photos it is quite St. Pauli Girlish?

Ana this is just breathtaking. You look beautiful in this dress. I so see what you mean about the armpits. I would prefer if there was more coverage in that area,however I don't think it's a deal breaker.

JJSloane and Natalie, thank you for your honesty. I do appreciate it. When I was uploading the photos I also did a double take because I thought, "that looks like major cleavage" and I don't remember seeing that in person. In reality, the cami part is a light pinky peach, which is actually lighter than my skin. Plus it's ruched. But across a room it might look like St. Pauli Girl-level cleavage. Oh well, hee hee. Knowing the event I'm attending, I don't think it will be a problem.

I will definitely have to go in tomorrow and get the dress. I will probably be posting in the future about possible clutch and accessory options. I'd like to get one nice "dressy event" outfit put together, since that is currently a hole in my wardrobe.

FWIW, I noticed the cleavage thing too, but ONLY on the teeny tiny thumbnail photos. When I enlarge the photo it's very clear that it's part of the dress, so I don't think it'll read that way IRL.

It is absolutely stunning! I wouldn't get too nit-picky about the slight arm-pit cleavage you see in the arms forward position because it is not something any-one else would notice.
The fit looks really good with no alteration needed to add cost to the purchase.

Wow, that is a killer dress and it looks perfect on you! And while I can see the "cleavage line" in the thumbnails, I agree that enlarged it is quite clear that it isn't cleavage. You should DEFINITELY buy this dress!
