Opinions on a coat. Should I?

I heard that a little birdie said beige is back. I love beige, so I am quite happy about this. I was going to look for a navy wool coat, but based on current trends am looking for a camel colored coat instead.

I found this 80's camel colored wool coat. It is basically new, pockets are still sewn shut and wool tag is attacked to sleeve. It has an over-sized fit and will go almost to my ankles. Also the sleeves are cuffed. They have them rolled down in the pics.

The hubby doesn'the care for it. Say it doesn't have enough wow factor. I think between the hood, fit, and length it has plenty of wow factor without being over the top. My biggest concern is the faux fur quality. But then.....no one will be mistaking it for real fur and throwing paint on me.

Oh, I don't have it. It would a purchase with no returns.

I should add...it's not expensive. Very reasonable, actually.

Wow, that is a REALLY nice coat. I had a similar situation for my trench coat-beige, eighties, bigger shoulders, almost down to my ankles, great quality and function. I don’t regret getting it because it still works so much better at its main purpose than some newer shorter coats I got, but I don’t exactly feel trendy wearing it.

The coat looks nice. But I think that to be sure, we would have to see it on you. Perhaps you could go to the store and have someone take a pic of you wearing it? I think that fit would be a big factor in whether the coat would be a good purchase.

Bathrobe was my first impression as well, the way it looks on that hanger. It sounds like you really like it, and your vote carries the most weight! I wish we could see it on to make a better critique.

Hm.. difficult to say without seeing it on you, but I must admit don’t really like the look of the hood from the back.

Yes, that hood looks really big in back, and the shape of the fur in front doesn't seem very modern. But it has a higher button thats not fastened, so may look quite different with that done up.
Maybe Google it to see if theres other views.

I love the idea of this coat.
A couple of practical questions....
Will this be your main coat? Or is this a fashion coat, meant for occasion wear?
Do you live in a winter dominated climate? Get lots of snow?
If this is meant to be your main coat, I’d have a some reservations, especially if it’s cold & snowy where you live. If on the other hand you live in the southern US and this is a fun fashion statement, and the price is, as you’ve indicated, reasonable, I’d be less inclined to talk you out of it

I’m getting a bathrobe vibe as well, and the cut somehow seems too dated to read classic or trendy, but I agree that this needs to be seen on to truly assess. I should also qualify my reaction with the admission that I’m not a big fan of beige, especially in a very long coat in this style. A shorter, well-tailored trench in beige could look very chic and classic.

It would not be my main coat. My main winter coats are a navy parka and a vintage navy peacoat. I want something fun that can go over lighter weight pants and certain jeans when the weather is cooler.

The price is $30.

Side note.....Since most seem to think it looks like a robe cut, maybe I'll need some of that jammie streetwear I've been seeing. And, you all aren't alone. The husband doesn't like it eaither, lol.

Thanks, Angie. We'll hope the fit is good. I love that the over-sized coat is coming back. Unfortunately, there is a fine line between over-sized chic and over-sized frumpy. We'll see.

If the coat falls to your ankles, I'd be very curious to see where the belt fits. Does it actually fit you? If not & you need to alter it, factor that into the price.

My opinion is that a coat going to your ankles will look dowdy, and depending on where you live, it will be filthy on the bottom very quickly. (Obviously thinking of my Chicago winters, which would require this to be cleaned every time I wore it, which would irritate me to no end.)
