Opinion, super distressed jean?

I've been eyeballing some super distressed jeans. In particular a pair by R13 that has denim patched under the distressed segments.
I know Angie doesn't do that level of distressing, but I like the contrast with dressier shoes and toppers.

I am like you, Anna. I love the stark contrast of distressed (and slightly masculine/rugged) jeans with more feminine and dressy additions in my tops/toppers, footwear, jewelry and handbags. I think this is also what draws me to the look of combat pants + lace. I guess I am a high contrast, eclectic, quirky maximalist… so this, perhaps, explains my attraction for this style. Would love to see a link to the pair you are eyeing.

I have a pair of BF jeans that are distressed with patches, etc. I love them. They are about 6 years old and I take them with me on all my vacations. They get a lot of wear. I like them as a casual jean but I do like the look with pumps and silk shirts. The Smythe model wears jeans like that and it looks great.

So ever since I had that experience where my distressed jeans ripped all the way down my thigh, I am very wary of jeans with a lot of rips, especially in the upper leg. Although admittedly mine were 100% cotton (so no stretch at all) and my thighs are not small.

Anyway, I think they can look cool, but the really super ripped ones seem like they're one tiny step (or one too-big step as the case may be) away from disaster.

If it's something other than actual rips or tears I am all for it.

I like my distressing with patches under because A) it's warmer and B) it helps keep things from falling apart. That said, I am a big yay! I am on the hunt for the right super-distressed pair myself...

Ooooh! Love them! The "super distressing" almost has a lacy effect to it. I think that the under-patching is cool, and may also be practical (potentially avoiding what Diana warned about). Agree with Ariadne that you would totally rock them

I absolutely support hectic distressed denim on others, Anna. If that's their style - and I can certainly see you wear the look - FWIW, it has my blessing.

It's not my style to wear jeans with holes - although fading, bleach marks and severe stone washing I will happily wear. Shredded jeans are a fashionable statement at the moment. And if you like it, go for it.

IK, I hear you, but we all have differing budgets and place value in our lives where we choose. Some buy organic produce, others designer clothes, others yet fancy electronics. Or some of us like nice wines or imported chocolates. Mmmmm, wine.

I love them. I especially like the idea of the holes and distressing, but with a layer under it which would keep it from exposing skin and ripping more. I think they would look great on you.

And I thought we'd had the discussion about budgets and priorities before. I didn't see Anna ask about what we thought of the price.

And for the record, it would take a LONG time and tons of effort to do an artful distress like this as a DIY. To make the shreds (as opposed to empty holes), you have to very precisely take tweezers and remove only the vertical threads. I really liked DIY for a while there, and not even I had the patience for it. Then you have the sewing to deal with, and then whatever you're going to do with the edges of the patches to keep those from unraveling. Depending on how much you make per hour doing your regular work, getting the distressing done for you on a jean that's already around $300-400 is a deal.

Hmm, Anna, link away. I might shake my head at that price for a pair of distressed jeans, but I've forked over a similar amount for one night at a luxury hotel. To each her own.

Look, I spend money. And if AnnaG wants to spend it, go for it. But honestly I think that is not a fair price. Value for money seems to me to be fair game for discussion whether your budget is brass or gold.

Despite (or because of) my RATE tendencies I don't feel that wearing shredded jeans works on me (I would probably rip them in two putting them on). But I could totally see them in contrast with your sparkly shoes and do like them when I see them on bloggers/pinterest. In a way I think I like these super distressed jeans better than minimally distressed ones.
