Opinion on sock booties - YouLookFab Forum

Hoping you can help me fill a wardrobe hole for dressy shoes and would love your opinions. I don’t have a lot of dressy events but I have a few coming up and would like to have a more comfortable option than my Okalas (which are the only dress shoe in my capsule.) I picked up an inexpensive pair of sock booties at the Rack to try but I’m wondering whether their style longevity might warrant a better quality and more comfortable option. These are from Catherine Malandrino and are pretty comfortable overall but I’m toying with the idea of trying the Seychelles because they look like something I could wear to work (this makes me wonder whether they look dressy or whether they will be an alternate to my Blondo Suede OTK.) I’ve rounded up a few dresses that I think are on the dressier side for me—would either bootie work? The CM are subtlety sparkly and the stiletto heel looks dressier than the suede/knit and practical heel of the Seychelles. Not sure the red Seychelles is available in my size but would that be a better choice than the black? Would appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!

I like them with 6, not so much with the shorter dresses. And I can't really explain why. Maybe because they do look like socks? Would you wear them with semi-sheer black tights?

If they fit and seem reasonably durable, it seems sensible to just keep those and if somewhere down the road you ear them out and can't stand having none, or the style settles into classic and required for your wardrobe, then consider upgrading.

All renditions work. You have beautifully shapely legs. I like #2 and #5 best just because I like the lengths and proportions the most.

Thanks, cjh! That makes sense. I'm trying to resist the urge to settle but I don't need another casual bootie. Just trying to decide whether the *Splendid* are dressy enough.LOL--they do look like socks. I didn't think I'd ever want a pair. I guess my eyes take less time to adjust to these trends.
Thanks, Angie! They are a great option for those of us with narrow heels that find pumps hard (impossible) to fit. Do you think the Splendids are dressy enough or I should stick with the CM?

Thanks, Ummilila! I think I will keep the Rack version because I'm not crazy about the tab on the back of the Splendid. The Rack ones read more dressy anyway and honestly, on further thought, I don't think I'll get much wear out of either pair at work.

Thanks, Lisa! The ones I'm wearing are the Catherine Malandrino from the Rack. The ones I was thinking about trying were Angie's picks with a lower heel--suede. They are show in the finds in burgundy by Splendid. Sorry for the confusion.

I think the ones you're wearing in the pix look great and are very flattering on you. I see that you've decided to keep. Sometimes a cheaper version does what we need it to do, and there's no need to fix what's not broken.

Sounds like the CM will serve their purpose since you don’t intend to wear them too often in real life. They do look great on you. Although, I really like the red boots too because it would give a bit of color to your black and white dresses. I don’t think it’s too casual because of the tapered shape of the boot and heel. I think either one looks nice.

The black ones you are wearing look great and the heel looks more appealing than that of the Splendid’s to my eye. I have a few pairs of a similar style from Stuart Weitzman and I wear them so much. Great with casual looks of jeans, cropped pants and wide legs. Nice dressed up with midi dresses and skirts. They have been one of my favourite styles ever and I’m tempted to get a back up pair of the black ones.
