Open toe shoes & tights - rules?

Hi all,

I'm curious as to what the 'rules' are regarding open toe shoes & tights/hose. I love a look that Aida posted with tights/open toe shoes but don't quite know when it works. I recently purchased these shoes

with the idea that I could wear them with hose/tights. Will that work or should I take them back. We have such a limited sandal season in Seattle that I was trying to have a multi purpose pair. What are the guidelines?

I have seen some VERY well put together ladies at work (we are smart casual to business casual) with booties just like that and tights. It looks really saucy and young (and not, IMHO great for work but still a great look) when you do high contrast tights with it and very elegant with same color tights (and better for work.)
That said, its not for me, I don't personally feel comfortable in it, and those booties add 10 pounds to my legs.
Be careful of seams at the toe!

Keep the colour contrast fairly low. Other than that, no rules.

I think booties work especially well paired with hose. Good to know that low contrast is key!

I have a pair of black open toe booties that I wear with black thights all winter as well as some peep toe pumps that I wear tights with and I love the look. Oh, by the ay, I'm 54! Just be sure the booties doesn't hit too high about the ankle as it cuts the leg off making them look shorter.
