Open Cardigan Fit Question

I have not worn this style of cardigan much so I'm not sure how they are intended to fit. Obviously it's not a structured garment so the fit is not intended to be "crisp", but I'm wondering about the diagonal folds that have formed from bust line to side seam. Are these folds totally fine? Or are they indicative of a poor fit in some way?

The color is actually more navy than cobalt, but I lightened up the photos to make the folds more visible.

Hah, think the diagonal drapes are normal, and are there for all of us who do we have some a bust and not a flat chest.

With these kinds of sweaters, it's all about how it hangs in the back .....in my opinion, anyways. I'm most interested in getting nice drape and flow back there- making sure nothing is sticking to my back and butt.

It’s common because there are no breast darts, but it’s also why I don’t tend to wear this cardigan style. I prefer cuts that drapenover rather than hang on my chest.

Angie it is very new and I'm trying to decide whether to keep it. I have a bit of a conflict over this style. As you commented they are probably meant to be worn a bit longer than this one is, but tops that are longer than the widest part of my thighs usually get a thumbs down from me because they shorten the leg line at least a bit. I need to go back and think about it, I'm thinking maybe return it.

Angie's reply is interesting, and now that she mentions it, I can see how the length of the cardigan cuts you in half.

I think part of the issue with folds has to do with the fabric. I think that lighter-weight fabrics tend to do this more.

Chris and Gigi, you can count on my beady eye, especially when it comes to length.

Chris, the open front of a longer length creates a long vertical line down the centre front of the body, which is elongating. This short length is too horizontally-cutting.

Chris - I can see why you liked this cardigan, it is a lovely colour on you. So interesting to get Angie's opinion, because now she has said why it looks a bit off, I agree and think you can do better. It is great that you posted this to get her expert opinion.

Chris, I struggle with those myself. I have a hard time with something I wouldn't have the option of fastining, be it with only one button. A brooch placed above or at breast line has proven sometimes to be an option, but then the look becomes very mod (a little Jackie O).
