Oops, I stopped by the shoe boutique...

On the way back from meeting with a client, I walked by our fancy shoe store and these boots were so fab, I had to try them on:

They are a little less beat-up and a little less brown IRL, and they were full price at the boutique. I held off but came home to read reviews and found them on sale at Zappos. The heel is a great height for me and the calf actually fits.

I got a check for $150 for my jury duty - didn't need or expect it since I didn't fill out the paperwork, but the state sent it to me anyway. So these would be my civil service boots.

So whaddya think? I am not an expert at non-black boots, but I can't wear the same boots all the time, right? Can I make these work? Do I have to bookend?

No bookending necessary, the red bits in your hair could be enough. Fun boot, but would you wear them in non-black? I think the color is pretty fantastic, especially if it's a richer cognac like this.

Sure you can make them work. Bookend? probably somewhere in your outfit or person with something that depth of color/warmth.

So, you know your IRL size from the store, right? because the zappos review complained about running small.

I think the style has a lot of potential for you, sort of a polished RATE

I'm pondering that, Aida. I think they could help me with wearing white, and in summer. I really feel like I'm getting in a rut with black boots. But wondering if will struggle. Need to go through current wardrobe and see what might work.

I love these...the RATE cognac ones. They are soooooo tempting at that price (though I already have pricey cognac-ish Frye boots, so will be passing on these). But they have your name written all over them.

I wear my non-black boots more than my black boots, but I have also been working at wearing even less black anyway. I think if you forced yourself to style these a few times you'd get the hang of it pretty quickly. Not sure non-black boots + wearing white all at once will be the best idea, though hey I'm all for diving right in the deep end At the very least, these will be a nice outfit lightener!

I would consider them a neutral and not overthink it! Plus they could be worn into spring, but also in winter too IMO.

Aida, I WILL be looking to you for inspiration. I'm thinking with colors on top (emerald, citron) and jeans, these should not need bookending, right?

I think so! I don't have true cognac boots (srs hole *sniffle*) but if I did I'd wear them the way you describe. Plenty of white or dove gray in the summer and plenty of black or charcoal for winter, along with a bright color here and there. Any of your brights should work as an optical bookend. And hey they'd look good with all black, too! No stretching needed

Those are stunning boots Una and I love the rich color. I would personally not worry too much about bookending, I don't think we have to do it all the time. Sometimes lighter shoes can serve as a pop against darker outfit.

I love the boots for you - and the idea of wearing them with white jeans and emerald or citron on top has me swooning!

I think these are a great neutral colour that you can wear a lot more easily than you might expect.

I think they will look great with lighter colored skinny jeans and bare-legged! Is the boot opening narrow enough to work with bf jeans?

Sarah, I actually served 7 days not including 2 days of voir dire - got "randomly" booted with another alternate after closing arguments. Hard earned $!

I like these for you Una - I like that they're more cognac and not brown. They've got a great "beat up" vibe to them. I agree with Mochi just to treat them as a neutral and take it from there. The tone will probably be great against your bare legs for summer.

I too am in a black boot rut, ugh. These are fantastic and will solve that problem perfectly. I think they will pair especially well with skirts and shorts in summer.

Wow! I had to PAY $6 (parking) to sit through two days of voir dire. I kept hoping I'd be called to the jury box because I knew I'd be dismissed immediately since I knew/know Plaintiff's counsel socially. I think juror's here get paid $7 which doesn't cover out of pocket costs.

Nice boots! Leather lining, too. Will be better for your Gidigios(sp?) if you let them rest every other day, too.

Not my style but if it were my style these would be the ones.
I think for an IT these would be a nice balancing item on the bottom half.
Love the idea of wearing them with grey.

Rae, don't gnaw your hands off! I'm glad you like them though. I wondered if anyone here actually already had them.

I really wanted a little height as some of my outfits look better with a heel. But these are only 2.5" and very comfortable for me. Looks like I will be reporting in with a K/R soon!
