Today was a clean-the-house-and-do-messy-chores day, so I was wearing a stained old tee shirt and old Lucy shorts that are too big. I thought of changing into something proper to go out but since I was running late and my two destinations were the dump and then the local pool for the kids' swim lessons (where I would change into my swimsuit). . . please don't read this, Angie . . . I decided to skip that. Since we were headed to the pool, I wore my flip flops.
Loading up the car with bags of trash, I felt a couple of stings in my leg. Lo and behold, two big gashes, caused by a large, broken glass cake pedestal I had forgotten was in a trash bag. Long story short, I now have eleven stitches in my leg and two slashes in my shorts. I am very happy I was wearing throw-away clothes and flip flops at that moment rather than nice clothes and shoes (no, that wasn't my first thought, but I had time to think about that during the long ER wait). My kids were total troopers through the whole ordeal, and two of my three kids are eager to sew up my shorts for me.
I really can't think of any other time that wearing my indoor-only, messy-schlumpy outfit outside of the house would be okay, but this one time, it was a small thing to be thankful for!
