I've been waiting for this material to speak to me, and it finally did just in time to have a new Thanksgiving dress!

ETA: I feel like these boots are a bit on the nose for this dress and I have my eye out for a funkier option.

ETA 2: I added my inspiration dress.

Wow--that dress is beautiful on you. I like the way you arranged the plaid pattern and how it accents the lines of the dress. It's at once retro and modern. I like it with the boots and could see it with suede platform pumps, too.

Thanks ladies! What sweet compliments. I got my inspiration for the pattern placement and skirt shape from the dresses I added up top (I own the B&W ON version). I am really NOT an amazing seamstress, I just had an idea to make this design in the simplest way possible (because I wanted to wear it for dinner and decided to go for it. It's a sweater knit with some stretch, so it really was pretty forgiving except for the pattern.

I am not sure what "on the nose" means but you could probably put a number of different styles of boot with this dress depending on the look you are going for with it.

Gorgeous! I just started sewing again after a long hiatus, so your posts have been very inspiring to me. You eye for the right silhouette for the fabric is spot on here. And a sweater knit makes it super fab AND super comfy!

I second the idea of a suede pump or wedge as a alternative to the boots, which are also a great option.

Yes, Ingunn, it IS rewarding when it turns out! Lately I've been both getting more adventurous and making fewer mistakes, so I've been feeling that reward a bit more often ;).

Dianthus, I meant "on the nose" in the sense that both the boots and the dress have an old-fashioned aspect to them (the boots have sort of a 1930s heel and detailing). I put the boots on and thought, uh-oh, I can imagine my grandmother wearing both of these pieces when she was younger. On the nose = a little too expected. I think it would be fun to find a modern looking shoe/boot to make a bit more of an unexpected pairing :).
