One more keep or return: Tahari sheath dress

I couldn't find the one Angie recommended in my size, but here is a relatively inexpensive version - too long, even in petite, but otherwise comfortable. Does it look too boxy? I'd like to fake an hourglass figure, but sadly I don't think there's anything that will work that magic on me in sheath dressses....

Also, can something with a back slit be properly hemmed?

I think a different neckline would be better on you. This straight across neckline makes you look boxier than you are.

I've had dresses with backslits hemmed. I think you just have to watch where the new hem is going to hit on the slit. I took off about two inches and there was still plenty of slit to not look odd.

I like the neckline on you! I think it emphasizes the beautiful shape of your shoulders - you look so fit, and healthy - my kind of girl - (sort of a Michelle Obama look!) I would keep this and shorten it - love the bright colors with it. How about going all out M.O. and putting on a gorgeous colorful brooch?

If you shorten the dress enough you can have the back slit sewn up because you don't need it, or have the slit made higher if you do. I'm wondering if the dress might also give you the curves if the skirt part is taken in a bit on the sides so that the bottom angles in, if that makes sense. In a pencil skirt that sillouette seems to create curves better than hanging straight down from the hips.

I love the neckline...first thing I noticed...you have great shoulders and arms. Yeah but maybe shorten it a little.. I took one of my dresses in and that seemed to create more curves(and I dont have much waist)....you could talk to a good tailor.

I think this looks great on you, and I actually think it does help you look hourglass-y. If you really want hourglass, maybe try adding a belt?

The first thing I noticed was how great your shoulders looked, love the neckline on you, but it looks like it could be shortened a bit and maybe taken in a bit on the sides.

You really need that Papelli sheath in petite. That's the ticket. Have you tried Theory?

I like the idea, I can't advise on fit since I'm having a hard time judging in the photos. I like this neckline on you. The first thing I noticed was "wow she has really nice shoulders/arms."

Thanks all. I am a rock climber, so my shoulders and arms are the one part I feel comfortable exposing.

Angie, I tried one Theory sheath and posted a photo but it was too small up top and too long. I can't find the AP dress in my size. This is not as fitted as it could be (it IS a petite, though). But I don't like anything that fits tightly up top and then cuts in at the waist, as I don't really have a waist.

What to do? I may see what the tailor says and just pay if I must to make it a perfect fit...

This is actually a petite sheath dress, Una? If so - wow. It doesn't fit like a petite should fit.

Medusa, yay! I mostly climb indoors since it is too cold for outdoor climbing here in winter. But I have ice climbed as well, and try to get outside on climbing trips when I can. Vegas is my favorite place to go... How about you?
