What styles have you seen trend once and only once?

Of course it will vary where you live but my list is
- stirrup pants (about 1985)
- tee shirts with shoulder pads (late 80s)
- crochet shoes (1982)
- moleskins (1990s)
- bubble gum pants (1980s)

I will try find some visuals!!

What might return- maybe moleskins? I would consider them again.

Stirrup pants were back briefly a few years ago... And crochet shoes were big in summer last year. How about cold shoulder tops? Never seen that before.

I haven’t seen the make your own barrettes with ribbons woven onto them since the first go around...

Good point - I had never seen the cold shoulder either!

I had crochet shoes like the pic above in cream - hopelessly impractical!

Stirrup pants must have stayed very fringe here- not my favourite but I am sure others could make them work.

Moleskins are Jean style pants in kind of velvet - sort of a rural look. Men and women wore them - I had navy but I think khaki was probably the most popular.

Bubble gum pants - those jeans with corrugated legs that looked child size and you stretched them on to be super skinnies. I had pink!!

I've never seen bubble gum jeans! I wore cold shoulders back in early to mid 90's. I would add the bubble/balloon skirts of 80's to your list.

Sal, they're cotton mary janes with a flat rubber sole -- usually black, sometimes with floral embroidery on the toe. idk, I don't really think they'd fit my current style but I have a real soft spot for them.

Disposable dresses. They made an appearance in the late 60s (I think). They were in a can and made of J cloth material. I never had one but some of my friends did. Very simple style. I do not want to see them again.

I spend a lot of time visiting friends in the country and moleskins are still worn. I think of them as a classic rural Australian look. R M Williams and all that.

I think a lot of 80s looks haven’t come back - like pull on boots with scalloped edges, feathered headbands, blouses with bird images on one side.

Jellies (plastic fisherman's sandals). I had a red pair in the late '70's (see below worn with high waisted 'painter' jeans) - but haven't seen them since.

Oh yes jellies - I never had a pair but they were popular.

Brooklyn - I am okay with those headbands staying away!! And maybe moleskins are a rural classic, I wonder with 90s fashions reviving if these will again, or in a different version.

Sarahd8, urban outfitters has been carrying those China flats, so they’re at least back as a fringe trend. I wear them as slippers!

I’m seconding JP on the bubble skirts. We used to tuck our midi skirts into the waistband from underneath to get the look.

Fun post!
I still have nightmares about crocheted bikinis. My mum used to make them for me. Awfully pretty and clever, but oh my gosh, once they got wet, they would get heavy and slide on off!!! I saw some last summer. It is possible the technology has improved now but still, it is a risk I won't b taking

I remember those china mary janes as well. The ones I knew were velvet, in black, burgundy, forest green or navy. They had a plastic sole that was inflexible and would make a lot of noise. I liked them at the time but would not wear them again.
Then there were Buffalo shoes in the 90ies (see pic), and I really hope they are not coming back. Were they just a European teenager thing, or more wide-spread?

Stirrup pants made a reappearance as stirrup leggings -- pretty sure Angie had a pair. This was when leggings were flimsier, more like tights, and were *not* meant to be worn as stand-alone pants.

What about the knee-length sweatshirt with dyed-to-match cotton leggings? Very 80s, highly embellished (think puff paint, beadazzling, sparkles).

I think china flats are still around. Like Jenn says, they always have them at Urban Outfitters. And the theatre I work with has about a million pairs in the costume dept.

I remember jellies in the 90s and I had a *strong* dislike for them as a kid -- too girly.

I remember jellies in the early 80's and had a strong love of them, but my mother wouldn't let me have a pair I think I was around 5 years old then. I remember those stirrup pants. So practical.

YES to the stirrup pants - (although the came back ten years ago for a wee while ), China flats (yes, you can get them at Urban Outfitter), bubble skirts and jellies.

CROCHETED BIKINIS!!! YES, the '70s. Good grief.

Those extremely high cut bathing costumes with the low armholes from 1985. Remember, Paulina?

And those headbands... a la ONJ.

OMG...leg warmers worn over jeans, sort of as of it was a boot...
acid wash jeans...i know that acid wash is sort of back now, but IMO it looks nothing like it did in the good old days

Stirrup pants were popular in the early 60s, but I couldn't afford them and they didn't come long enough for my legs. I envied the girls that looked so neat in them. When they came back in the 80s I still couldn't find a pair that fit right.

Okay, from my youth, 8-12 grades:

felt circle skirts, with or without poodles
lots of crinolines under full skirts
white buck shoes (as I recall in 8th grade you were supposed to let them get dirty.)
cummerbunds on dresses

Later 70s:
peasant dresses. I've got more photos of these somewhere.

#1 Jr high graduation dress, sister in grade school grad dress
#2 high school graduation dance dress
# 3 white buck shoes
#4 peasant dress--I've got a full length of this somewhere.

OMG Jellies! I had a pair of clear ones and my feet would sweat so bad I would slip when I walked. UGH!

What about Jams shorts? Very tropical prints, worn long...

I also remember severely ripped jeans with black spandex pants under them, worn with knee high moccasin boots, or knee high black boots that folded at the top, like robin hood.
