One Dress-up Shoe to Rule Them All?

It's been a while. I don't get off the farm much these days. I read Angie's posts, but hardly feel like I have much to say since all I wear are camos, tees and hiking boots. The geese and goats don't care what I wear.

But when I do have a reason to go somewhere, it always seems to call for more shoes. Every once in a while I need to go to DH's work events, sometimes even black-tie or "dressy cocktail" whatever that is. I have never tried nude shoes before, but I'm starting to see how practical they could be as a back-up shoe for just about any color dress or skirt that I might want to buy but don't want to invest in new shoes to match.

I just ordered these pumps. I can't do heels. Please tell me if these would be acceptable, and more importantly, that they are so classic that I can wear them for 10 years, because I am sick and tired of buying shoes that I wear to just one event and then donate. If I wore them 10 times in 10 years, that would actually be a huge CPW improvement over my track record in event shoes. I look at what you all post, but I just don't "get" shoes, other than 90% of them hurt my feet.

PS I just bought the mustard yellow golf shoes and I love them. I can even get my orthotic in them. Too bad I can't wear them with my grey cocktail suit!

I think those shoes are lovely, and you should be able to get a lot of mileage out of them at dressy events. And they look classic and timeless. Just beautiful

But... nude patent does read more "day" to me. I would probably be more likely to go black patent for evening events. Hmm... I'm now actually really interested in hearing if other people feel this way or if it's just an ATLynn thing.

I tend to agree that a nude shoe is more daytime, with black being more dressy as an occasion shoe. And with a gray cocktail suit, I would prefer black with gray rather than nude. The nude would be lovely for things like daytime weddings.

Have you considered a metallic? That might be even more versatile.

I love nude pumps - including the ones you posted; I wear them all the time including at evening things, but I also do have the nude pump I wear a lot in a black version too.

I like Susie's idea of a metallic!

I wear my nude almond-toe pumps to almost all of my fancy events. The less fancy things I've been wearing my wedge sandals. I've had those since Grade 12 and they're still amazing. I was just thinking about their CPW - I remember thinking OMG $140 is SO MUCH MONEY to spend on shoes. I've had them for ten years now! Almost eleven! They've been overseas with me twice! Nuts.

I think these are both lovely, and yes, I think the nude will be timeless.

Susie has a point that a metallic (I'd go silver or pewter) could be even more versatile than nude.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. But now I am more confused. NO surprise there, this has been a gaping wardrobe hole for, oh, decades. Could one wear metallic ones to a daytime wedding type event? These exact shoes happen to come in a silvery color, and most of my jewelry is silver.

Nude shoes-could wear to a funeral?
Silver shoes-fancier/funner for evening. Might they be too sparkly for day? I would not wear them to a funeral.

I would rather spend money on anything else. I don't enjoy shoes they way some ladies seem to, they just stress me out. Multiple pairs in various colors isn't happening. I really need to stick with one-and-done because they aren't going to get worn more than once or twice a year. If I bought either these, I would happily donate all of my black, ill-fitting shoes and not even think about replacing them.

If you had to take one pair on a month-long trip as your emergency "OMG I might get invited to something important" which would it be?

The pumps I am wearing today are a mix of black and silver so I say definitely NOT too sparkly for day!

I think the shoe you pictured is a great choice to be very versatile as your "OMG emergency" shoe!

Ann, I agree that silver would not be suitable for a funeral or for something very formal (like appearing in court, for example). Personally, if I could have only one pair of emergency event shoes, it would be black pumps rather than nude, because black seems to be suitable for pretty much everything. I do think that nude reads more daytime or lighthearted or casual. I think black would be more suitable for a funeral than nude also.

I do think that the style of shoe you have pictured is classic and will not go out of style.

Wow, for those yellow golf shoes!!!! I'm sure there are elevating any outfit! &They clearly show your great sense of style!

As for the nude shoes. Go ahead for them! I am blonde so I always preffered nude to black, and wear them even for funerals-(elongate legs, goes with everything). I also love patent(polished and ads interest) and a kitten heel! It's easy to walk in, but it''s still there, and believe me, IT MATTERS!

I love the silver ones, too- but think tan shoes are classic and will be more functional for your needs, if you have to stick with only one pair.

I so hear you on special dress event shoes. I'm always in a ditch on that. Even ones I think I can manage sometimes turn out to be killers by the end of the evening.
I tend to look for what fits and is reasonably classic. I can't do a true thin high heel or even a kitten heel, so style compromise is always in the mix and I look for a refined shape (like almond toe) or something to offset a more chunky heel or wedge. That is about the best I could do.

If the ones above are comfortable, I think they look great. If they fit really well, I would consider duplicate but only if the color is useful. Black and nude or pewter would be my choices for me. Silver if you have true fun gala events.
I think you can wear classic simple nude pumps like this to most funerals--if you wear a conservative color and style of dress or slacks-not even black but gray, burgundy, navy--in my experience that is all acceptable.

I own a pair of nude pumps which are very similar and I get a lot of wear out of them. They work with dresses/skirts as well as cropped pants.

As a follow-up, the beige pumps went back in their box, too much pain. I ended up with these, which I wore with the leather shell and a flouncy grey skirt from my cocktail suit. The shell didn't work with the suit jacket and it was warm enough.

The snooty chairman's wife who has not had one nice thing to say to me in about 22 years, said I looked "like a flower child". Sigh.

I like the shoes & shell. I'm sure you looked great. Forget the rude comments. It is probably jealousy. Patent leather shoes tend to hurt so if you look for beige in the future try matte leather, though the ones you bought should go with most things. Were they comfortable?
