On the hunt: knee-high black boots

I'm desperately seeking a new pair of boots for fall, with about a 1 3/4 inch heel, to wear with everything - they have to be versatile, and somewhat practical, as I live in Chicago and once Thanksgiving hits, we have snow and (worse) ice until March. I have a pair of Danskos from two years ago but they are not cutting it anymore, style-wise. Any suggestions? Has anyone found anything fabulous out there?

I bought the Born-Thicket. Great boots, comfy. They run large so order a size smaller than you normally were.

How are they around the calf? Do they fit snug?

Yes thy fit snug. I would say I have an average size calf. They are beautilful quality boots. I'll post a picture.

Ooh Shoeline.com is out of stock. They are a good boot. Maybe you can find at another place. I'm glad I got mine when I did they were runing out of sizes.

I am afraid that one pair of boots won't work with everything most of the times. A pair that works for skirts/dresses should be typically really fitted on the calf ( unless it's a slouchy style) and would thus not work for tucking jeans in.

I second the La Canadiennes. The exact boots Tanya posted are on my list for Fall to wear with skinnies. They wouldn't work for skirts/dresses for me because the circumference is too big.

Maybe I am asking too much from one pair of boots! Time for a reality check. I will check out the Born and Canadienne options. Canadienne's styling is hugely improved from what I remember years ago - these are just beautiful Tanya.

I echo what Tanya and Ana have said. Fab advice ladies. One pair of boots to rule them all is virtually impossible. I vote LC too. I highly encourage that brand for bad Winter weather.

I've fallen in love with these. They are tall (18") and have a low heel. Not sure how they would fare in bad weather. I'm not ready to commit yet, but I do think they are fab:

Kyle, those are the exact boots we purchased for my 68 year old UBER stylish client who should be the next St. John model and doesn't look a day over 40. They are KILLER. Stretch leather with the most subtle of subtle sheens.

I chuckle when I think of these boots because my client asked me “can I wear them when I’m 70?” I responded and said “ You? Absolutely”.

i just bought these knee high boots--budget friendly ($123 on sale), small calf circumference, low heel for walking, good quality (ann klein). but sure how suitable for snow & ice, but perhaps worth a look. i love them, and i am picky about comfort, budget and style only 2 sizes left, hope you fit 6.5 or 7.5!
