Probably months ago now, we were talking about new jeans silhouettes and I said I'd wanted to try some of the Old Navy 'original straight' cut to see if it would work as a looser jean silhouette. I finally got around to it during a recent sale and they just came. I ordered two colors, the dark wash and a medium wash. Ostensibly, both are 85% cotton, 13% poly, 2% spandex, but the two fabrics feel very different: the lighter wash is thicker and stretchier, and the darker thinner. In addition, even though I ordered the same size in both (one up from my usual) they fit differently; the dark wash is looser and higher in the waist, more like a proper mom jean or men's jean fit, while the medium wash is more like a slim straight cut. Even though I was looking for a looser jean, I'm going to return the dark wash and keep the medium, because I like how it looks on me better, and the dark wash is just too high-waisted for me of the short rise. If you can handle a higher rise and are looking for a dark wash loose jean, you might have good luck with these - a size up or maybe even two.
