I’ve been experiencing such a dramatic urge to dial it all back . I’m a big lover of Instagram and fashion blogs/ digital accounts , especially those of fashion editors and stylists . However , I’ve always felt a disconnect between the way “they” dress and the reality of my wardrobe , but I’ve chalked it up to major differences in resources , lifestyle and disposable income …obviously . But lately the idea that my clothing and attempts at following trends are creating a look that’s too young and bordering on self -caricature has been ringing loudly in my head and I’m getting further and further away from how I want to look .

Please understand that this is not an indictment of how anyone else dresses or wants to look or what colours they want to wear . This is me thinking about me . That’s it .

I know I’ve often commented over the years on how I aspire to a style that is quiet-er , and more luxe than just ordinary …..but yet I still keep buying the same stuff that is the opposite of that . Not anymore , she says . I don’t want to see myself in what I call self-caricature stuff at this age : big statement earrings , full makeup , same old spiky hair hairstyle , and clothes that are just too much ( can’t articulate that too well , sorry ) . My fashion inspirations don’t dress like that and I don’t want to either . I’m yearning for quieter things that stand apart from the basics but don’t indicate a trend or a try- hard . I do wonder why I bother letting this stuff take up space in my head because I lead a very ordinary , basic life with zero need for more clothes and “ looks” but I guess my fashion roots will always be there . Anyways all of this b-s inspired today’s work look : simple pieces I’ve owned for years that are beyond trends and still look good . They flatter ( I think ) , are easy to wear yet make me feel dressed and put together . No trying for high waists , and cropped anything , no colour , no crazy accessories , no trendy shoes , and no bright nails or makeup . It’s time , Lisa , it’s time . I do not aspire to the Iris Apfel look , lol.

Cotton/linen asymmetric tank - random import brand from an indie boutique , 5-6 yrs old

Cotton/linen loose fit cropped pant - Old Navy , 3-4 yrs old

Leather / chains wrap bracelet - Jenny Bird , at least 10 yrs old

Black suede classic espadrilles - also old but rarely worn . Maybe BR ? Not sure I’ll wear them again to work as the heel is pretty high but they were fun for a day .
