I thought the spandex piece was really interesting as someone who is far from obese but enjoys a bit of stretch in my clothing. I have a couple pairs of skinny woven pants with stretch that are great because they're comfortable to move around in and look wonderful. Plus, there's a huge difference between jeans with 1-5% spandex in them and pants with elastic waistbands. Pretty much anything with 5% spandex isn't THAT forgiving.
