Ombre hair, maybe?

When I got my hair cut last week my stylist suggested that I do an ombre color at my next visit. My highlights are growing out and I need to do something with the color. My mom and DH didn't seem too excited by the idea when I mentioned it to them. DH was concerned my hair is too short to get the full affect and it will just look like I'm growing out a blond dye job. I was excited about the idea and still am but need some more opinions. I attached some images of short ombre hair. What do you guys think? Should I try it? Or will it not work with hair as short as mine.

I like ombre hair and if you do too, why not give it a try? I experiment with colour far more than cuts (I am pretty boring and keep my hair shoulder length) on the basis that whatever I do can be changed. Having a change is always fun and if your hair is a similar length to your pictures, then it should work out really well.

I really like the idea, but I am in love with ombre hair so my opinion might be biased. I am sure if you have a good colorist, it will look intentional and not like you are growing out your hair.

Not knowing how short your hair is, I can only say the examples you show are lucious. Why not give it a try? You can always do a color glaze over it to even it out if you don't like it. Hair color has become something you can change on a whim, like jewelry or nail polish.

I agree with your DH - ombre hair looks like growing out an unwanted color job to my eye too. What don't you like about your natural hair color? From what I've seen on the heads of women everywhere I go, it is a very rare hair colorist who can improve on what Mother Nature provided.

I think trying ombre hair could be fun. The wonderful thing about hair color is that if you do not like it, you can go back and change it. As Bennett just said -- a color glaze can be used to even it out if you find that ombre is not your thing.

I say give it a try and have some fun with it. Worst case scenario, if you really don't like it, you can always even the color later with a darker dye.

The nice thing about trying new hair styles and color is that if you don't like it, it'll grow out. If you don't mind the growing out look, then I say go for it.

Sure! Why not!? Especially if you're growing out highlights it seems to be a good time to try something like this.

The photos there seem more streaky- highlights and do not look like what I think of as full- on ombré , so maybe I don't know what it is or how to anticipate. I'd get vertical vs. horizontal ombré?

I have Ombre hair so I am biased but I say give it a try. I like to think of it looking more like sun kissed hair than colour that is growing out.

Before doing this you might do some research on how it will last and what it will take to keep it looking good. I like #2 . However I hsve thought that ombre hair would be great for women growing out grey if it does not need to be processed too much.

It doesn't hurt to try - seems correctable if it doesn't work out and potentially fun if it does.

I was thinking I would like this since I like my hair when it's dark (its natural color) but I also get bored, which is when I'm tempted by highlights and new ideas, like ombre. I don't have much grey to worry about at this time, so that's not really a concern yet. My appt is in January so I have some time to think about it.
