Olive V-Neck Cable Sweater - worth keeping?

I found this sweater in a thrift store late last year and have only worn it once. Olive looks good on me, but I'm not sure that's true for this version of olive which has a fair amount of yellow in it. I want to either start wearing it this fall or donate it back to thrift-land. It's pretty traditional/classic/preppy so I went with that in styling it.

What do you think?

1 - with white jeans rolled & white sneakers

2 - with denim shirt, medium wash jeans, black slip-on sneakers

3 - with deep blue shirt, dark wash jeans, black booties

All the outfits are great, you have styled the sweater very well. I think that the color looks nice to you. If you normally gravitate towards cool colors though, I can see how it would make you pause. In that case I would make sure that there is something else like a shirt collar or scarf between the sweater and my face.

Also like outfit #1 (if it were me wearing it, I'd scrunch it up a little so the welt would fall on my hips).
It looks too bodycon to be worn over a shirt, are you comfortable in #2,3?

Thanks Tanya! I wear both cool and warm colors next to my face, the only thing I seem to need to avoid are very pale colors. I also thought of a white shirt but that seems a little less interesting somehow.

Traci it's 83% cotton and 17% nylon but stretches as if it had a bit of lycra (which it does not)

Thanks Xtabay! I struggled with what color to pair it with, and I think the blue and white work well, but I would not put any other colors with it. Black seems too extreme although I do like it with darker and lighter olives. Blue is good - I wear a lot of it.

Skylurker, good advice on scrunching it up a little with the white jeans. Your question about whether it's too bodycon to wear over a shirt is really the major question I have. I'm not really sure. I wish it were a little looser and the answer would be easy. I could try it over a knit top which would be less bulky than the shirt, and maybe add a scarf if I feel the neckline needs something.

I love cable knit sweaters!!!! (Been looking for a dark grey one since last winter!) I think outfit #2 is all kinds of fabulous!!!!

I like how you styled it as well. However, you've only worn it once since you bought it. To me, that says that while you like it and can make it work, it may not be worth it to you. Since you've come up with a few great ways to wear it, I'd say give it another go, but give it a time limit. I'm not sure how often you wear sweaters like that, but maybe count how many times you wear it in the next 3-6 months? If it's below whatever threshold you want to set, then I'd say pass it along.

Thanks Maneera...interesting that you are into cables....I've overdone cabled sweaters in recent years and am now more interested in either smooth knits or textures other than cables. Of course I live in a much colder climate than you do, where cable knits have been a winter basic forever so I probably see a lot more variety than you do, hence my not wanting them so much. Isn't that always the way it is

It sounds like trad/classic/prep isn't necessarily a plus for you. If that's true, then I would wear it with the denim shirt. It's less trad than the other options. I think it looks good on you.

I have in the past worn V-necks over oxford collared shirt, but these last ten or so years tend to keep it casual and layer them over either a crewneck T-shirt or a lightweight poloneck sweater ( aka known as a skivvy where I live ).
