Olive Jacket: K/R? - YouLookFab Forum

I found a sanctuary olive "denim" jacket on clearance at TJmaxx and I love the idea of adding a topper in this color to my wardrobe since jeans are a big staple of mine but I prefer to not wear different blue denims on top and bottom. It's also just a little bit military/RATE with a frayed hem, which I like. I'm all about trends in very small doses.

The thing is, this type of fit is very tricky for me to asses. It's a bit boxy, especially in the shoulders, but I think that's a good look for me. However, boxy jackets can make my waist disappear, which is NOT a good look for me.

What do you think?

1 - jeans, red sweater, olive jacket, sneakers

2 - same look with a white denim jacket I already have, for comparison purposes

The fit looks good, but something looks off with this particular shade of olive for you. I’m not sure if it’s the combination with the jeans, or if you need darker shoes, or something else. The white one is fabulous, so it could be that my eye would see this is just as good, if it weren’t for the comparison.

I much prefer your white topper. I like how the white topper tapers into your body so it is a more flattering shape and I also like the white colour best. The new jacket is not bad, but I prefer the white jacket.

I also like the fit of it. It's harder to tell if the color is good because so much depends on the lighting and the colors you have with it.

Love the color combination especially! The cut looks very flattering and it looks like a nice, rich greeny olive. My olive jacket is a workhorse. I can wear it with longer tops like you and with dresses. This one looks like a fun addition!

The fit looks very much like the Finds image, so I think it's a keeper. I love olive and I think you have to be the judge of the real color of that particular olive because in pics the lighting is hard to determine. I have a feeling it makes your eyes pop, which I think is great. And olive looks really good with so many other colors.

I prefer the white one. I like the idea of an olive jacket for you but what I think you need is something with a more structured shoulder. See how the defined shoulder seam on the white one squares off your shoulder and makes a sharper line that balances your hips better? With that kind of structure at the shoulder, you can get away with lots of boxier shapes in the rest of the jacket. Speaking as someone with similar fit issues, I can honestly say that a structured, well-fitting shoulder seam is the single most important determinant of whether a jacket looks good on me or not.

I think it looks good on you and I like the frayed hem detail. I hear you with the denim on denim look. It's something I always avoid.

I agree with those above pointing out not enough structure or sharpness in the shoulder in the olive jacket. It’s not my favorite jacket on you.

Funny reading some of the thoughts here because I kind of prefer the softer shoulder look of the olive one, esp. for summer.

I like the olive one and vote keep! The relaxed fit/soft line at the shoulder does not bother me one bit; too sharp a shoulder on a fatigue-coloured jacket and it can veer into a military look that is too literal IMO. Also, it's a great colour -- not too warm or muddy. It will look great with blue denim, white denim, white tees, stripes, etc. The fabric looks nice and soft. I like the lapel style too.

I am looking at the pictures on a bigger screen now and I find the olive jacket very flattering. To my eye, it is more flattering than the white one. But I have a sugar eye for olive toppers.

The olive jacket looks good to me. Yes, I understand it’s not the most structured or perfectly fitting jacket in the world, but I think it’s definitely jfe. It also has a casual slightly funky look because of the less defined shoulder and the frayed hem. I think that works well with the jeans and sneaks. Your white jacket is fab too, but has a different feel to it. They kind of work for different purposes iykwim?

Style Fan I'm developing a bit of a sugar eye for olive myself. It's been a slow process to find the right pieces but I'm loving it more and more.

jussie in fact ALL of my denim jackets serve pretty much the same purpose. I wear them with jeans or pants. I rarely wear them with dresses because the silhouette is just not right, but that's because I have so few dresses and none of them work, not so much a problem with the jackets.
