Olive and Purple.. who would have thought? not me

Over the course of the last month I have been buying various pieces of clothing to try and put together a few outfits. It was not until yesterday when I found this cowl scarf that can be made look muffler style did I see two colours together that I had not thought of trying. The colours are olive and purple.

I have attached a picture of the scarf and some of the various other pieces.

Am I behind the times in putting these two colours together?

None of these pieces are very expensive (being budget conscious). It was all between Ricki's, Reitmans, Old Navy and Maurice's.

I am crossed between the owl and the peacock necklaces.

I have a couple of wine purple tops in addition to black tops, black pants, black sweater and blazer. I also have a nice wine pullover sweater that came from local thrift store last year and of course jeans.

I would love to get either wine or olive pants?

What do you guys think?

I also like navy and orange and have a few pieces in that colors as well.

Oh I also inadvertently found this polish. The best part is the name on the polish which is ruby do.
The colour of the polish matches the purple on a few of my pieces.
I would also like to get myself either a bicycle or elephant brooch.

Olive and purple are a beautiful and rich autumn combination. Olive and burgundy will work, too. Gorgeous! That scarf will be really versatile for you.

I don't wear olive so I haven't tried this, but purple and taupe can have a similar effect and also works.

Love navy and rust, too.

Re: pants. When I wear olive pants, I prefer a more casual, maybe even cargo-ish look to them; I don't find it easy to go dressy with them. This might be a mental block for me, though, but if you find yourself thinking the same way, I'd think about how you want to use olive or wine pants (formality-wise) and go with the one that fits that formality better.

Beautiful combination ! I cannot speak for "the times" but last year I discovered olive as practically a neutral. I have always loved olive but never mixed in much with it. Now I love it with teal, berry colors, oranges ( though I don't look good in Orange ) and now Angies idea of RUST !!!! Happy mixing !

I used to wear plum with olive. I think they look wonderful together. Olive goes with so much, except maybe Kelly green.

I love the combination. I have been playing with olive and brighter cool colors for the last month or so and love it with cobalt blue and fuchsia too. I will see if I can find a purple top to try with it.

My F/W capsule for 2015 is olive, purple, grey, and cream! The olive items are new additions, the rest were already in my closet. You will see those colours represented in future WIWs...but right now it is too hot for F/W items!

I love this combination! I'm really looking to wear more olive and eggplant or deep burgundy this fall. I just wore the combo last week, pairing the top below with an olive cardigan and belt, with blue jeans.
I especially like the plaid skirt you've shown and the peacock necklace. The owl pendant is gorgeous, too, and it makes a more olive-and-purple impact.
