I had a long overdue annual at the gynecologist yesterday. He is so remarkable, especially in this day and age of healthcare, I just wanted to share. He's in his 60's with only the slightest hint that he "might start thinking about" retirement. He's always focused on gyn, rather than ob, so he's mainly talking to us ladies of a certain age all day long. And that's my reason for this post -- he talks to us. After the prelim blood pressure, etc., I go into his office. We talk for 20 full minutes about my general health and what is going on in my life while he takes a lot of notes. He's very funny and extremely straight-forward to the point of being blunt at times, and I appreciate his candor. We have talked a lot in the past few years about aging parents and young adult kids. Yesterday we focused on the urgency of maintaining the strength of marriage during this time of being pulled at both ends of the spectrum. And then he does a 7 minute physical exam and sends me on my way. Why does this have to be remarkable? We are whole people, not just reproductive organs! Here's to Dr. T! Hope everyone has at least 1 of these doctors in your cadre of health care professionals.
