Okay I need to talk hair

Fabbers, I have a hair appointment this Saturday. *trumpets sounding* BUT
now I am not sure how much to cut.
My style for the past 30 years has been a pixie cut. No maintenance, wash and wear. But since the pandemic lockdown, it’s longer, wavier and I am kind of liking it some days. The color is another story for another post.
Pictures are just washed hair, air dried. No product.
Suggestions re cut/style/length please?

When I was growing out my hair some years ago I landed at just the spot you are at and stayed there a year or two. Just sort of a longer short cut. Had my guy slap some style on it and really enjoyed that. I’m looking for something new myself. After no coloring for four months I’ve decided to go grey! I’ve been coloring for 30 years so this will be a big change and I know I’ll want a new style too! Post your new ‘do pix when you’re done!

Madeline, here are some ideas, short (#1 and #5) - to long (#4 and #8) that I think would work with your (thick and wavy?) hair texture. I think your natural colour is looking gorgeous, but if you don’t like it...

Anyway, there are examples in both colours to give you something to think about. Maybe ask your stylist to keep as much length as possible, but give it some shape? You will have to get used to directing the hair forward, but the bangs aren’t so long that they would be annoying,

* I especially like #1/5 and think it is a fun/modern look that suits the sassy/trendy outfits you’ve posted!

** and think your natural hair will go so, so, well with the whites and bright in your closet

*** You have beautifully shaped eyebrows!

Runcarla has the best hair inspo pictures. Your natural wave is beautiful and I like the idea of keeping it a bit longer.

Since it is a bit longer I think why not experiment a little bit - you can always go back to a pixie whenever you want. Your waves are lovely - I think it looks good, but just a sharpen up around the face.

Do you have a cowlick - I have a very similar one and they can limit styles a small amount (ie I cannot have a fringe/bangs)

I really like Runcarla's inspiration pictures and absolutely think you can go longer. I think a little more length on the sides and lots of texture--like #7.

You have such pretty waves and gorgeous thick hair! If your stylist can work with that, it might be fun to leave some length for a while. Carla always has great inspiration pics for hair. It might take a while to figure out how to handle the front...you will also want to consider daily maintenance. As someone who is used to wearing my hair short in a pixie of one kind or another, I have almost zero tolerance for daily styling beyond a rinse and maybe a bit of product. But then again, if you have a pixie you need frequent cuts.

You have great hair! Maybe a bit of texturizing to take away some bulk but not to loose length too much. Like @Runcarla' pictures - #5 and 6 esp.

Your hair falls so pretty at the back, I think you should work with this length, as stated already you can go back to a pixie any time.

Your hair has such great wave! I think the inspiration pics are wonderful and you should consult your stylist for a longer ‘do that works with your natural wavy hair.

I’m struck by how great it looks in the back — your natural wave is really nice (mine is weird, it’s gotten sort of clumpy as I age — some parts go super curly and others lie straight, LOL). I also encourage you to keep some length and shape up the front and sides a bit. Play with having a bit of length. Your hair has such nice natural texture. What do you think of sideswept bangs?

Agreeing with the idea to work with a longer style for now—you can always cut it off, but it took several months to grow it to this point. My hair was and is a similar length to yours—used to be very short but since Covid is now several inches longer. I haven’t rushed to schedule a hair appointment because I’m considering keeping it longer...for now.

And yes, you have wonderful waves in your hair!

You have such wonderful natural wave to your hair. I echo the recommendation for a longer length style. A sideswept bang would be really flattering. Carla has such great inspiration hair pics. Would love to see the "after" pics following your appointment. I'm sure the result will be fab.

Nothing to add except I agree with everyone else's suggestions to grow it out a bit & see where the wind takes you/ your hair

This coming from someone whose hair went from above the shoulders to bra strap length, you'll get used to your new 'normal' before you know it!

I agree with what everyone has said. Carla is the best at finding good inspiration pics! Pick your favorite and give it a try - can't hurt!

I d love hair as thick and curly as yours so show it off and wearing it a little longer is a great idea in my book.

Sal: yes I do have a couple of cowlicks! It always takes a new stylist a couple of tries to incorporate them.
Kellygirl: I like #7 and 8 too but my hair gets really poufy with humidity so there’s that.
Suz: yes-I have always been very low maintenance with my hair except cuts. So it’s a trade off.

Cow lick - my son has several. The hair stylist thought it was worse than inheriting a heart murmur. I disagreed, but whatever.
