OK, final K/R vote on the crested slipper flats

I posted these Nine West slipper flats as part of a bigger K/R post last week, and they received mixed reviews. I wanted some dressy slipper flats/smoking loafers and felt these might work.....now I'm having second thoughts. Many of you commented that it was a dated 80's look. So:

Yay - these are a cute take on the smoking loafer
Nay - these look like a bad 80's flashback

I vote nay, just because I don't like that particular crest. They seem to be back in at the stores but I think a plain or patterened slipper flat will take you farther.

Sorry, but they give me '80's flashbacks as well. I DO like velvet smoking slippers (especially with a skull embroidered on the front), but this particular pair just isn't doing much for me. I think you can do better.

I'm going to vote nay as well--that was my first response when I saw them in the other thread too--but with the caveat that I'm unsure if they truly do read as dated or if that's just my poisoned eye for most things 80s and preppy (they remind me of the crests on private school jackets).

I see a certain appeal but I'm not sold on them. Can't put my finger on why - usually that means its an 80s flashback. But is it?

Hmm. So many negative reactions (thanks for the love and visual support, Anna).

I actually don't think they're a fashion throwback (to your points, Anna and Rae) since they're a slipper flat shape (not a ballet flat), but the negative reactions of almost everyone so far make me worried. I don't want the general reaction to be that I'm clueless and wearing some 80's leftover.

It's the crest for me, too. If there was a pair of tassels instead of a crest, I'd be leaning towards a yay.

Yes, these have an 80s vibe, but that is on trend right now. I really liked some of the inspiration photos above.

Do you like the shoes? Do they make you feel fab? If you buy them, will they make you happy and feel like that wardrobe hole is beautifully met? If yes, keep them. They are current and fun.

If no, old out to find the shoe that you can answer yes to the questions.

I really like them, but hey, I'm a preppy! I think the crest is fun, and I have those same Nine West flats, in leopard print. They aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world, but I'm a little tempted to seek yours out now.

It depends on how you style them, I think. they have the potential of looking dowdy, if you are more of a classic dresser like myself, but they would look edgy if Anna wears them. It really boils down to what items you pair them with.

I agree with Zap -- depends on how you style them. I would wear them with clothes that contrasted with the prep-school vibe of the loafers.

What I'm hearing from you ladies are a lot of reservations about "crests" on clothing items and fears about these shoes looking like something from the 80's. It's funny because I'm actually not a big fan of crests myself, and I don't embrace most 80's style....but somehow these seemed fun and appealing. I used to own a pair almost exactly like these, which I bought on my first trip to Paris in 1987, so there is also some nostalgia at play.

Count me as one who likes these. I'm a big slipper flat fan. I have a black velvet pair with no embellishments, but would wear these in a heartbeat. They may be a little harder to wear with everything, but hey, that's what more shoes are for, right?
