OK, but which shoes? ETA - ordered

I keep thinking (obsessing) about getting these jeans when I can shop NAS Friday. The question in my mind that keeps coming up is, "which shoes go with them?" I've been in ankle-length jeans for so long that I've been spoiled with wearing any shoe I want. But, I worry the full length and flare on these will send me down a hole of needing to add shoes.

Will any of my current shoes (below) work? I think the yellow block loafers work, but I'm not sure about any of the others. I am ok hemming the jeans to go with a handful of shoes; ideally my ankle boots and shooties... maybe the sneakers... If these don't work, what would I even shop for?

If the heel height works, I think all these shoes would look good with those jeans. I personally prefer a pointy or almond toe with boot cut or wide leg jeans, but I have totally embraced sneakers as a fashion necessity and think the Vans would add a "hip casual" vibe.

This is precisely my worry / issue with flares . I have two pair sitting unworn in my drawers because I can’t figure out how to hem them and for what shoes . I don’t wear wedges and heels anymore , and can’t wrap my head around flats with flares . I ended up cutting one pair off last week into crop flares

I would think the yellow heels and the Lucky Boots for sure.

I have one pair of flares and I wear them with a low-mid heel - not flats, not high heels. I definitely prefer a pointy toe but the sandals do work. I experimented with white sneakers but I didn't like it on me at the time.... I suspect I would need bootcuts rather than flares for that to work. The navy, and camel boots definitely work.

I do plan to try with my black boots but am yet to do so. The photo does not show but the toe is more round.

Nemosmom, you will need to commit to boots or sneakers to get the right length on those flares. I vote your ankle boots. But if you want to wear sneakers and your shooties - choose these. Less of a flare. You are going to rock them!

I'm going to hem the Transcend for sneakers with the hope they will also work for my shorter heeled booties. And I think they will. Angie showed me how to hem them just to the top of the white part (sole) of the sneaker and I'm going to try on that length with my Blondos and see -- it will not be ground scraping but then it doesn't scrape the ground with the sneakers, either, and still looked flattering (to my eye). It has to do with the proportion of the flare. I really liked these jeans -- can't say enough about them, and they were a complete wild card surprise for me because I have steered away from boot cuts for years. Having seen your posts I think they'd work for your style really well, Nemosmom.

That's the hard part about bootcuts and flares - committing to a length. I try to be really honest with myself about which shoes I'm going to want to wear. Also, I've measured the heel of all contenders and hemmed to the heel height that I can wear with the most shoes. I've also purchased multiple pairs of a jean if I really love them and had them hemmed for two different heights. Yes, ankle length is much easier for this reason but I love a good flair!

I, too, have been struggling. I have to have most pants hemmed, and with flares, there's always the risk of losing the flare.

I think you'd have to commit to the heel height and hem.

Width at the bottom makes me feel short (er) and dumpy (er) unless there is a pointy or narrow toe and a heel involved . I’m really going to try to get over this stumbling block as I seem to be the only one who experiences it

I think any of these would look great! The yellow loafers and the two lower shaft booties all look about the same heel height to me so that's probably the length I'd go for. I hope the jeans work out for you.

Btw - those yellow loafers are outstanding . I think those are just about perfect with flare jeans , although one would want to make sure there is no dye transfer from the jeans onto the yellow suede ..

I would suggest a platform sneaker (converse has one) or a dad sneaker with the flares.

Nemosmom, with your existing footwear, I would hem them for your booties, as Angie suggests.

Nemosmom, Lisa P and Smittie, the small flare of the Paige Transcend works REALLY well with sneakers. Most of my clients are hemming them to wear with sneakers. Hem them to above the sole of the sneakers and you are in business. Suz is modeling them that way in the dressing room - with my sneaks! - and she is borderline petite. 5 ft 3 ish....

TRUST ME. It will work, and I do not say that lightly.

Lisa P, they are a FRESH look that you can wear for longer during the year if the hems don't drag on the ground like wider flares. Extremely streamlined, leg lengthening, and great with your sneaker collection. Good with chunky sneaks especially. Maybe a pair of Seinfelds....

I tried the Kut flares (in petite) with Ecco sneakers and loved the look. Can't wait to wear my High tops with them. I also think the longer, pointy loafers I have will look great, a kind of 70s dandy effect. The only shoe I didn't like with them were sandals. I thought my feet looked too naked with the wealth of fabric around them. Platform sandals with a chunky heel would have been great, but i dont own those anymore.

OK, so I ordered the Transcend and the flares. I'm growing concerned over dye transfer from the jeans to my shoes.... especially since most of the shoes I want to wear are suede. UGH why do I keep buying suede?!?! Anyway, I will have to research a fix if the jeans fit. The boots I wanted were sold out, so I added a dressy metallic sandal to try, since my only sandals at present are Birks. They weren't a top pick, so I am hoping they are ok in person (I've had hit-or-miss luck with Vince Camuto in the past). Fingers crossed.

The dye transfer to suede footwear is a real thing - and I've learned that lesson the hard way. Some of these dark wash jeans are heavily overdyed, and can do a number on car seats, coats, shoes etc. I'm super cautious now and would never wear a light-coloured shoe with them until I had washed the jeans several times - which of course could take forever to happen.
