I was a member of a nice but pricey Pilates studio and decided this past August that I didn't want to continue. It's a month-to-month membership agreement and they need a month advance notice. So I got the email from them in August that my credit card was about to expire and they would need a new number. I hit reply and said that I wanted to let my membership lapse, thank you. So the stupid part comes in where I don't check my statement for these past months until just now. Yes, I am irresponsible that way. Of course they had been billing me all this time and I had to fire an email to their membership guy's email account (this is where I suppose I should have responded in the first place), saying that I had in writing my request. Okay, I will probably work it out with them, and will definitely dispute the charges with my cc company if they balk, but WHY do I put myself in these positions in the first place? I really ought to know better... and make sure I cross my t's and cross my i's, but noooooooooooo.....
