Figured out that "weird bodice", lol

Backwards! I was trying the dress on backwards.

It's back from alterations. Trying it on this morning, I was irritated by a tag hanging over my chest—why is there a tag in front anyway? Then I realized that the label with the maker’s name is there too, and the zip was on the right side. With a sinking feeling, I pulled up the site where I’d ordered it & confirmed. I was wearing it backwards!

No wonder the bodice didn’t fit! Now it has darts in it & I’m trying to decide what to do. Could wear it as it, could take the darts out & try it as it was meant to be. But once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Buttons in front, cut straight across
or
Buttons in back, extremely slight “v” in front.

i'm sorry, but this had me laughing so hard this morning i spit out my coffee....the tailor didn't mention that you had it on backwards??
personally, i'd chalk it up as an expensive lesson learned and move on...(and i wouldn't go back to that tailor again either)

That'll teach me not to listen to Astrid's recommendations. The person she suggested is a whole 6 subway stops away. I meant to drop it off while running other errands there, forgot it, so decided to try someone closer to home. I think you are absolutely right about the shop I went to!

I hope you can see the comic side of the story ! I would take the darts out and see how it works. You make me think of my white linen pants I bought last year. I was so happy I had found a pair of pure linen pants for a low price, then I wanted them to be altered, then realized that I liked them more the original way and had them re-altered. I paid 10-12 euro ? ( I don' t remeber exactly) for a pair of pants that cost 30 euro.

Sisi, absolutely I’m laughing! Still haven’t decided which way ‘round I like it better. Here's the front when I put it on the “right” way. I know buttons in front is traditional and traditional is boring, but I think this is pretty boring itself. I might just leave the darts and wear it “my” way. So far I’m at €35 for the dress + €15 for the alteration.

No, now I remember that the alteration was 20 euro! I was so mad at myself thinking that the alteration was 2 thirds of the price!

I'm sorry you're having a bit of trouble with it, but I thank you for the laugh just the same. I'm only laughing so hard because I've done something like this before (more than twice). I say if you like it better backwards, wear it backwards. Angie does like to tell us that fashion and style are celebrating doing your own thing

Cindysmith, yeah, we are so good at this fashion thing, we’ve got it coming & going! Thanks for laughing with me. Do you like it backwards? At first I did, but now I’m not sure about the square neckline. If I decide to do the buttons in back, I guess I’ll take out the darts.

I think the lower, straighter neckline with buttons is way more flattering on you! Take the tag out, and call this a win!!!

Too funny! If it makes you feel better, dh and I took our new very furry cat to the emergency vet (an hour away) for what we thought was a tumor on her backside. It was not in fact a tumor, and the cat was not in fact a she!
I like the dress more with the buttons in front, the other way seems loose under the arms.

ST, glad your kitty was OK. Good thing your vet was more competent than this seamstress!

Wear it the way it looks and feels best to you. I was laughing at this and snorting coffee. I like it I. The photos best with the buttons in the back. It looks more relaxed. Or cover the whole top with a sweater or jacket.

That is a very funny error! BUT it does look better with the buttons in the front, so call it a win and rip out the annoying tag.

Joy, the forecast for this weekend is warm enough that I can probably wear it Sunday. I'm planning to wear a red cardi over it, and socks with my Pikolino sandals. But next summer I'll want to wear it on its own.

I can understand the confusion! I've never seen a dress with a sweetheart neckline in the back before. I like it best with buttons in front -- I agree with notsaf.

It happens to the best of us! I once styled a new blouse with a client all morning, and we loved the results. Only to realize that she had it on back to front which created a more flattering neckline....

Sarah, the sweetheart neckline is meant to be in front, with the buttons in back. But I think I agree with you & like it better the other way round.

Katerina. I might switch it around either way, depending on what I’m wearing with it.

I just got back from another trip to the alterations shop, btw. While I was trying it on, one of the straps came off, so I stopped by to have them sew it again. At first she wanted to leave it for the co-worker who did it the first time to fix tomorrow, but seeing as this is likely to be the last warm weekend this year, she ultimately agreed to do it, and will charge her co-worker. Next time, I’m using Astrid’s tailor—I can switch it front to back, but strapless is absolutely not an option!

I'm laughing- I did think that the "front" was strangely low, resulting in a super short waist length, when you first posted. I'm almost relieved to know that was the back. Personally, I'd take the darts out, and then take it to Astrid's tailor, and have the actual front fixed- it looks a bit loose. Or, wear it "backwards" and call it a day. This will make for an excellent story!
