Thank goodness I am in charge of my own climate destiny.

I used to have office sweaters and shawls for summer.

NYT did an article on frigid AC last year. Apparently the "standard temperature" is based on men's metabolism. What a surprise:

Bring on the A/C. My husband wears a sweatshirt at home;-). We've negotiated that when he's in the room, the thermostat is set at 71. As soon as he leaves, it goes down to 69.

My lab has microclimates. Seriously. I think the overall AC is set to typical frigid office building temperature, but there are spots with horrendous drafts (it's an old, crappy building with old, crappy air ducts) and other spots that are super warm due to a lot of machines producing heat.

My desk used to be under one of the drafts but the other place where I spend a lot of time sitting and working is in one of the warm spots. So I was constantly putting things on and taking them off in the lab. Luckily I moved to a different desk a few months ago so it's not so freezing cold there all the time any more.

I swear, I have come to losing my toes to frostbite when I made the mistake of doing no socks in summer... It's very difficult to know whether to wear the puffy or use it as a blanket.., and everyone is wondering at the puff...

Microclimates in offices and apartment buildings without individual controls. Shakes head. So glad they aren't problems for me anymore. I worked in an office where the rumour was the warranty for the heating/air conditioning system expired before the building was occupied. You can only imagine. And of course, near the windows was completely different than the center of the building. And in the apartment the manager on the top floor set the temperature. I was on the bottom and hot air rises.

The visuals are priceless and so true!
While the women might not actually be wearing fur coats at my office, we ARE wearing blankets and shawls, holding them closed with one hand and typing with the other.

I can so identify with that. My teeth used to literally chatter during lunchtime at an office I used to work at, since I wasn't moving around and was only sitting still and eating. My coworkers and I decided that the themostat was set by the higher-ups, who all wore full suits and so were warmer than the rest of us.

Funny! This was my life the last time I worked in an office. I kept a wardrobe of sweaters and coats in the office as well as a small space heater under my desk. I think I even had fingerless gloves.

Sigh. My company must try to save money by keeping the thermostat relatively high. It is never cold in my office. Never.

My boss and one of my co-workers are obese, and their offices feel like meat lockers. Because of them, my office (in the lobby) is also cold. I have a large heater by my desk that gets used year 'round.

Unfortunately, our public school building has no a/c. Even if the building is pleasant in the morning, put several hundred kids into that space and it heats up VERY fast. The beginning month of school and the last month of school can be intolerable, depending on the weather. Fortunately, we have a new facility being built, but given the budget I can almost guarantee that the a/c temp will be set high.

This reminds me of when I did a project in Florida and I brought a puffer coat to the office and wore it every day! I am from Northern Canada so I understand cold but it was ridiculous. Still chuckle about that.
