When Jenn posted her October goals, I set a challenge for myself to work on creating capsules - and addressing color. In sorting through my wardrobe for colder weather wear, have realized that I have a lot fewer bottoms - pants and skirts and that it's easier for me for both capsule and outfit creation, to work from the bottom as the base. My main base bottom colors are black/gray, olive green, camel and blue. Have a few other random colors and prints.
Have realized in working to put outfits together that there are a few items that given silhouette, length, color and fabric, basically only work with a few tops and/or shoes. For other items, eg: blue jeans, basic slim black pants, olive green chinos and camel pencil skirt, they can work with a wider range of items. I'm ok with the first category, but I want to make sure that I have enough neutral classics on both top and bottom to give me more flexibility.
Although I find silhouette easier, and useful to relatively restrict myself to, that isn't the case for color. Although black is a base neutral for me, notably enough have found a lot of garments lately that are various shades of blue, navy, and ink and often instead of black - so have more than I anticipated. As well - I like brown. It's a color that looks good on me and if I find something I like in brown, I'm likely to get it. So at this point, trying to get a better feel for what colors work with what colors and where to go from there. Comments welcome. How about you? Any other people set goals for October and how did it go? Are others finding working on capsule or outfit creation helpful?
