I don't shop Macy's enough to know if it's a case of get it now or lose out. My satin blazer is down to $70 from $90 until the 14th. It did not go on sale with other things for the Columbus weekend so I'm not sure what sale it's a part of at the moment. Should I be patient and wait it out until the end of the month when my credit cycle starts over as planned? Or even wait until it goes on sale again? Does Macy's do a lot of sales like Ann Taylor and Gap, etc?

My SO has yet to see the shearling leather jacket that broke the budget for this month . . . sigh.
If Macy's is likely to put it back on sale next month, I have no trouble waiting a few more weeks. I can't really wear it now. Still in the upper 80's - boo.

I don't shop at Macy's enough to know their sales cycles, either. All I can say is that a couple of the things I bought recently were marked down shortly after I ordered them. UGH! On the plus side, I got what I wanted and am very happy. It's hard for me to know if my size will be available after an item goes on sale, so if it's something I really want or need and I have the $ for it, I usually pull the trigger. If not, I patiently wait for a sale; though to be honest, I'm not usually patient enough to wait until the final sale, lol.

Not sure I understand the returning thing Rae? But I know I want this blazer. I've wanted it ever since I saw it over a month ago. My timing is just BAD with the leather jacket. Truth be told, if I could only have either the leather Allsaints or the satin blazer I would choose the satin. The question is whether I should pounce or be patient. And if being patient will yield a sale again in the future or if I will strike out 3 weeks from now and it will be gone. Argh.

Did you and SO agree on the "one item per month" strategy? If so, I'd honor that and let him know that I am. I'd return the All Saints (if that was my item this month) and get the blazer if that' the item you really want. I'd want him to see that I am compromising too for the sake of our relationship as it is more important to me than shopping.

Nice blazers will come along time and time again but the trust in your relationship is way more important than a $20.00 "saving".

Kim, I just told him I was expecting a jacket in the mail and he said the shopping needs to stop, that I have something new on every week, but we didn't get much further than that. It was offhand part of a conversation and not a 'big talk' about the budget or shopping. I think I did say I was planning on just one thing a month in the future. It was more a part of the bigger conversation of moving back home and once again being on the job hunt side of things. Oh, I know, we were driving on Sunday to the nearest actual city and I mentioned Marshall's, as I knew "a jacket coming might need to be returned" and we were about 10 miles from the store.
I know we can afford both (right now anyway) but I also know it's out of my normal budget to spend almost $300 on clothing in one month. So, I must decide. I told him one jacket. I need to pick which one, or wait with fingers crossed until next month.

I'd still send the All Saints back and keep the satin one if that's the one that you dream of...Still only ONE jacket. I would then have a conversation with SO and let him know my plan so that he can see that I'm not getting something "new every week".

My hubby thinks I do the same by the way, so I make it a point to let him know that I'm returning something so he can see it doesn't ALL stay! LOL

Since my man doesn't shop for himself at all he thinks anything more than once a year for clothes is too much! (Silly man...)

I think you'll get more use out of the satin jacket than the Allsaints, realistically, unless you see wearing the Allsaints as a regular coat all the time. It's outerwear, right? So you won't be wearing it under something else?

Can't help on the SO issue - DH and I have separate finances except for joint expenses. But I might be more accountable in a good way if he knew more!

Because I've been seriously let down by a great many things lately once I tried them on. I'd just be sad to see you end up with no jackets...

Rae, I have not tried on the satin blazer - it is not in store anywhere in my area, I checked. I'd have to order it and then go from there. Don't worry, I'm not rushing to ditch the Allsaints. Especially after the time and effort you put into it to get it for me!
I am not honestly sure which would get more wear, either. I don't have much in the 'dressy' jacket range beyond my cropped tux jacket. But then, there are plenty of opportunities for a sassy leather jacket in my long winter climate as well. Sigh.
I am thinking I'll unveil the Allsaints before the weekend and see what he thinks about it. If he hates it, that will make my decision easy and I'll return it and get the much cheaper satin one instead. If we agree to keep it, I'll just sit on my hands about the satin jacket and hope it doesn't sell out (and that it fits, to Rae's point).

i wonder if we have transference issues on the board because of the advice giving??? and does anyone have separation anxiety when leaving internet access for an extended period of time?

I did the 'unveil' and got a lukewarm somewhat uninterested response lol. he said it just looks like a coat to me, of which you must have seven; the important thing is if you like it. I assured him I do! We'll let him warm up on it. In the meanwhile I am waiting out the satin blazer. I hope it will be there 3 weeks from now.
