Observations about today's outfit

Thanks for your help with today's outfit.

After wear it all day, I think I may consign the jacket. I got it on sale at loft, and while I like the idea of it and like the shape, Ireally wish it were a more fluid fabrication. It felt stiff and I ended up taking it off. Any thoughts?

Also, I felt sloppy in the semi tuck! The pants had a bit of slouch in them - they are new in the past few months and I wanted a more fluid fit. That, plus a semi tuck with a button-back blouse...I worried it looked like I was coming undone. I'm a little concerned that I am battling my nature, which is to be a little trimmer in silhouette. Even with my BFs, I typically belt (even low) and don't go for a lot of stuff hanging out.
Am I doomed never to semituck?

Viva I really like this on you. The jacket has a tailored fit and works well. By all means do a regular tuck if it feels more like you.

I think it looks very ont rend, but you have to be comfortable with it!

If ti doesn't feel like you, banish the faux tuck. If the jacket is uncomfortable or too contricting, consign it. No point keeping pieces you won't choose to wear.

You look on trend but if it feels too fluid maybe only include one fluid item at a time?

Ceit - that may be just the thing. And oh yes, how obvious it seems now! So perhaps with more fluid pants, a trimmer top. And with my slim cropped pants, the faux tuck might feel better. Whew! Just finding my balance. Thank you!

And thanks Sona and Thistle for the general compliments -- I may try the jacket a couple more times before I send it off.

It might also be that particular top just doesn't work for a half tuck, but yeah, I'm with you on this. I like a balance - if pants are fluid and slouchy or baggy, I want the top slimmer and more polished. If pants are slim fighting then I want the top to be more fluid/slouchy/loose.

I love that jacket and I would not toss it!

Hmm. It's a nice jacket. I think it's meant for a fairly martial sartorial style or a tomboyish one. Tucked shirt. Skinny leg trousers. White trousers.

If it had the "handkerchief point" hem, I'd say try it over a long, flowy shirt - one much longer than the jacket. However, it has a straight hemline and I think that would definitely look funny.

Thanks for more help with the jacket. Slim fit and tomboy is more my natural style, so I have lots of ways to try this jacket.

The push toward fluidity has been a bit baffling - especially Trying to figure out how much and when to incorporate it. Thanks so much.

I am sorry you didn't feel as impossibly gorgeous as you look in this! The stiffness of the jacket offsets the semi-tuck'nonchalance, the overall result is so cool, chic in an effortless way!

Agreeing with Krishnidoux! It looks completely fab. But if it didn't feel that way, then that's no good.

Try a semi-tuck with knitwear and slimmer pants first. That might make it easier. With knits, it tends to stay put where you put it and you don't have to fuss during the day. With silk and poly blouses, that doesn't work quite as well.

As for the jacket - it sounds like a quality issue. I am pretty much never able to find anything at the Loft that satisfies my quality meter. I do own one peplum top that I got there (and like a lot) but everything else has felt too flimsy or too stiff or too something.

I think this looks lovely, but what really matters is how you feel in it. If the jacket feels too stiff, you might never like it. Maybe it can be a placeholder for now until you find a jacket that feels better fabric-wise. (I'm no expert on semi-tuck, so I'll let the others give you advice there.)

I will say that it might be a good idea to put the jacket in a holding place for now (not in your everyday closet, but not given away either) until you decide for sure whether you can live without it. I've done that with several items that are perfectly fine, but that I'm just not feeling the love for lately. If enough time passes without wearing them, out they go!

I have a nice ivory jacket with a somewhat fluid fabrication made by Aqua. Bloomingdales sells this brand, so you might want to check it out.

I agree with shiny; balanced outfits are so nice to look at. As Sona and Ciet have mentioned, if the whole outfit feels too 'loose' for you then fully tuck in that gorgeous top for a bit of structure. The jacket has a real 'tomboy' vibe-I love it!
